According to the canon, Minovsky particles block the radio waves and distort the infrared light (seen information that they can disable electronics), it turns out that the use of homing and guided missiles very difficult if not impossible.

However, MS-06 Zaku II could be armed with six missiles, and succeeded him Neo-Zeon MS - AMX-014 Döven Wolf / AMX-102 Zssa / AMX-006 Gaza-D - often had powerful Missile Launcher ...

So where did this contradiction? What's the catch?

Heat?
>>
>not every battlefield is saturated with particles
>missiles can be dumbfired
>different warheads, more versatile than beams

Pick all.
>>
The missiles are fired from within visual line of sight, they're usually not guided.
>>
>>14461591
Fly by wire technology perhaps? Failing that, dumbfire rockets...it could even be equipped to track the minovsky source or heck, have a trained pigeon in the missile :p
>>
>>14462233
This, actually. The majority of long range missiles used in Early UC are guided by wires.

As for missiles like in OP pic, dumbfired at a short distance with a minor heat seeking system to ensure accuracy.

The catch is that only autists give a shit about such a minor detail. Minovsky particles aren't even real.

The leg rockets you mean? They aren't heat seekers or otherwise guided. They're closer to rockets, and they're meant to be fired akin to artillery as opposed to being used as guided missiles.

Other anons are also correct in that missiles are either wire guided at all times, or else are fired from within short ranges where minovsky interference isn't as huge a problem as it usually is.
>>
>>14461591
Pretty sure those misses are dumbfire mate
>>
I figure they're just fired at visual range. Real missiles traverse distances of miles, so you can imagine that without minovsky particles fucking things up that you could have missiles fired from around the other side of a planet.
>>
>>14461591
No contradiction, they just use dumbfire or wire-guided missiles and typically at close ranges. Many are also meant to be used against larger, less mobile targets like ships. There's also something about "optical guidance systems" for later era stuff like the Jegan's waist rockets/grenades. Dunno how that'd work. Identify enemy MS via camera, seek the same image for guidance?

optical guidance, wire guidance, dumb fire.

this, you don't see long range missiles fired in gundam unless you have a clear line of sight (gundam 00 when they launch smoke missiles from the Ptalemaios)
Other times missiles are fired is in short range on the battle field or when Ships fly by for quick assault runs

The gist of what you're supposed to get out of this is guided weaponry is a no go so mechs can be justified and Space battles turn into cool naval battles. Otherwise, they'd be using Valkyries

It is possible to have some sort of guidance, just usually not active seeking in the conventional sense. Optical tracking or laser designation is possible, but fairly short ranged, requires line of sight, and debris is a problem. Conventional tracking is still possible if there isn't any minovsky jamming, and it's also possible to simply launch missiles on a preprogrammed course, although that's not really guided.

In mid-late UC, there are funnel missiles.
>>
>>14464954
Being funnels though, they use Psycommu (Xi does right? That thing is screwy)

Newtypes become guided weapons systems themselves with built in radars
>>
>>14465009
yep, in unicorn ova 7, they use improvised funnel missiles
>>
>>14461591
There's also less Minovsky in space unless it's purposely spread beforehand meaning missiles can still be used in areas with low minovsky.

Xi and the Penelope, yea.
