In the Gundam universe tactics can never save you, only ace pilots can save you. If they had got gud, then they would have been fine, but unfortunately Norris had already got gud and Shiro didn't catch on until the end.

Honestly, they should have clustered up into a group for that situation. The Ground Gundams armor could most likely take some hits from Norris's projectiles, making them good shields for the Guntanks. Actually taking down the Gouf, Norris would have played hit and run tactics until he got all the guntanks, the the best way to nab him would have been to have one of the guntanks move out of position into a narrow part of town. When Norris either goes directly in for the kill or tries to fire on it from afar, his unit would be stationary long enough for at least one of the Gundams to eventually get a good shot on it.

yeah, but its a cartoon show that occasionally tries to pass itself off as serious science fiction. there is way more Gundam Wing/Seed/Age than there is Zeta/08th/War in the Pocket, but that aspect is still there.

if a work of art tries to deliver a message or follow a technique, then we get to critique its effectiveness. Only if Gundam were nothing but G Gundam absurdity, would you be right.

Guntanks were spread out for no good reason, and they had to split up their protection. They had a couple opportunities to take down the Gouf and failed because they're shitty Feddies.

He already stood stationary for a while. Several times. He stood surveying the battlefield and Guntank positions for about 30 seconds when he first appears. They all have good line of sight on him since he's standing in the open on top of a building. Karen fires one shot at him. Just one. In 30 seconds. Which he leans over to dodge. He's stood still again while reloading behind Shiro. Karen and Sanders just watch. Sanders doesn't even have any weapons out. They could easily flank him and negate his hostage cover while he's reloading. Shiro had him stood still at one point too. He shoots several guns and they all miss, hitting all around Norris and even other streets, but not Norris himself. They had plenty of opportunity, but they had the stupid for the entire fight (or Norris had plot armor), so none of it meant anything. Nothing they could do would mean squat because of it.

They lost because the Gouf Custom was cheating, everyone else was being forced to use "more realistic" physics settings in their movements while Norris was able to flip about, slamming on highways and hanging from broken buildings spiderman style that should never have been able to support his suits weight.
