So what do you think of the look of Tau mechs, especially the Ghostkeel suit?
>>
It looks like stuff from that one FPS game with "not mechs." Can't remember the name now.

Titianfall?

I think it looks more like a Landmate: THICC thighs, smaller shins, about 6 meter tall, top-heavy and smooth.

It's mostly the paintjob that gives the titanfall impression

I don't know why people think Tau mecha are comparable to eastern mecha at all. They're nothing alike, except for the aforementioned Shirow aping that absolutely every major western mecha designer does.

The Tau are a lame race with a lame backstory and lame machines. Every single other race with mecha has better ones. Now where are my Orky Zakus?

Irondog made that Orky Gundam a million years ago but it was just an HG with all the wrong bits sloughed off.

A Zaku, meanwhile, wouldn't have too much for an Ork to want to change. It's proppa green, right proppa big, carries a zoggin' choppy ae what's burny AND choppy at once, and can carry all kinds 'a different dakka for every situation. What's more, it's made for space AND land, and for fightin' up close in all of 'em, so it's a proppa Orky machine made by 'umies.

Eh just generic boxy 6 meters landmates that stuck posed without proper articulations.

75$ for that? Laaaaaaame

I just proxy it with Hazel or Dom, or an AGNI instead.

I liked it better when they were the useless but generally decent faction, rather than brainwashing everyone because EVERYONE has to be an asshole.
>>
>>14361550
looks awesome, it would have been better if the Tau were humans that are immune to the warp
>>
>>14364911
No, it would be FUCKING TERRIBLE and I'm gonna explain you why:

A big part of 40k's appeal is its moral ambiguity, because it justifies all the edgy shit you see in it from a narrative standpoint. The Imperium is interesting as a faction because, in spite of being monstrous assholes with no respect for individual lives, they ARE the only viable way for humanity to survive, and that's because without a totalitarian, incredibly oppressive rule, human civilizations end up falling to the temptations of Chaos or getting destroyed or exploited by Xenos.

Showing us that it's possible for humans to develop a big civilization without having to use the powers of Chaos, fear them, or live under Xenos rule, would make the Imperium unambiguously and unarguably evil, which would remove all the tragic aspect of its history and just make the Emperor an idiot who was wrong all along about everything.

It would fuck up the stakes of the setting, and I know that it's not a story per se but it has a narrative element and dramatic stakes that would be severely undermined by introducing a better alternative to the Imperium's tyrannic rule.

>Showing us that it's possible for humans to develop a big civilization without having to use the powers of Chaos, fear them, or live under Xenos rule, would make the Imperium unambiguously and unarguably evil
The Necrons and the Tau both already do that.
>>
>>14361550
The fucking greeblage just doesn't stop. The old Tau are dead, replaced by this monstrosity.
>>
>>14365029
They subjugate and exploit humans; and they don't offer them complete protection against Chaos.
>>
>>14364976
>just make the Emperor an idiot who was wrong all along about everything.

That's pretty much how he comes off in the Horus Heresy books, from what I hear. Shitloads of problems could have been avoided if he had been more open and honest with his Primarchs, because his keeping secrets from them drove many of them to Chaos.
>>
>>14362025
>The Tau are a lame race with a lame backstory and lame machines.

Butthurt player that can't deal with entrenched marklight lines detected
>>
>>14365050
The tau sorely needed greeblage, up until recently their mechs looked like toys, it was ridiculous.
>>
>>14364976
>and just make the Emperor an idiot who was wrong all along about everything.
But he was. He didn't understand how Chaos worked and thought it could be fixed through atheism.
>>
>>14365024
What's more good then interbreeding the two species to create a unified, stronger species?
>>
>>14365061
The Emperor isn't presented as wrong about everything, he's presented as out-of-touch, bad at managing his sons, and partially unsuccessful in his plans.

But not fundamentally wrong.
>>
>>14365071
AND through totalitarianism. That part works pretty well so far.
>>
>>14365080

It works in the way that burning down a house solves its rat problem.
>>
>>14365084
Bad analogy, it works in the way filling a house with carbon monoxide will solve its rat problem.

The house (humanity) is still there, even if it's not fulfilling its potential or purpose.
>>
>>14365094
>The house (humanity) is still there

You know monoxide poisoning kills us even easier than it kills rats, right?
>>
>>14365098
Dude in this analogy, humanity is the house. Not its inhabitants.
>>
>>14365062
No, I just think that they're dead boring in a game full of fun stuff, even if it's mostly riffing on 2000AD. They're shoehorned in.

>>14365020
To the credit of the British, pretty much every other race has machines that don't reply on greeblage and bowlegs to work, with the exception of the Sentinels and their kinda-cousins, the Penitent Engines.
>>
>>14365141
The only mechs in Warhammer that aren't greebled are Eldar walkers and even those are rather bland.
>>
>>14365183
I beg to differ! It's why I posted the dreadnoughts. The Contemptor, for instance, is a very visually simple machine, underneath its rivets and bunting.

Humans that are immune to the warp exist but they're autistic monsters who wouldn't be able to build a civilization, let alone compete with other races.

Early Tau aesthetic was the best. Once we got things like the Riptide, I knew the Tau were doomed to the same design choices that make the rest of 40k look like garbage. Still, compared to a fucking box with legs that we're supposed to think is cool because it's piloted by a dead guy, the Tau are comparatively decent.

They're not boring to PLAY, and that's what matters in a tabletop.
>>
>>14364976
You're forgetting that the Tau are a relatively small empire.
>>
>>14364976

No man, the actual setting of 40k is fucking stupid and has always been shit compared to WH fantasy. You play 40k for the crunch, not the fluff, because the fluff is shit.

It's a forced eternal stalemate for every side despite everything in the setting pointing to like half of them being on the brink of extinction and the other half as overwhelmingly powerful, but that won't matter because GW knows that from a crunch standpoint, they don't want to stop releasing codexes for those groups and say they no longer exist. They refuse to repeat the mistake they made with the Squats, so everything is just in a form of stasis where no one ever wins in any level of significance and it all becomes as pointless as WW1.
