She's a very tragic person, and that speaks volumes to the audience. She's made mistakes(stemming from her teenage dipshittery), and now she's suffering because of them.

At the end of the series, she's become a more tolerable and humble person.

Minmey is a good character.

In DYRL, Minmay didn't have Kaifun to slap her around, and she was also seemingly the only thing that caused the Zentraedi to defect, whereas it was down to multiple things in the TV show. And IIRC, she fell harder for Hikaru in the movie as well, leading to the "I don't care about anyone else" line. I don't remember her being that bad in the TV show
