What's the best generic mech type name?
Mobile suit, Aura Battler, Knightmare Frame, Labor, etc.
Armored Trooper
>>14307791
megadeus
>>14307791
I wouldn't consider Aura Battler or Knightmare Frame generic personally.
Megadoose.
Armored Core
Mobile TankMETAL GEAR?
>>14307791
Silhouette Machine
>>14307880
WOAH OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Guymelef
>>14307791
Man-Machine
Space Titan
Variable Fighter
Sounds cool just saying it
Also Guymelef and I actually like Mobile Armor more than Mobile Suit. Mobile Armor sounds like it's walking death
>>14307791
Wanzer - because it is the most plausible and militaristic mecha
>>14308263
but that would be Armored Trooper, ah fuck it /m/ post whatever you believe

>>14308276
Not really. They're not even the most realistic Takahasi series mechs. The mechs in FLAG are more realistic for one.
>>14308276
You're kidding, right? VOTOM can easily wipe out a infantry large-caliber machine gun, but that would ruin Wanzer need to try hard
>>14308431
Tactical Surface Fighter
Orbital Frame
super fighting robot
>>14308498
Nah, just the average joe.
Giant of Fire
Robot
Mobile Suit/Armor, Variable Fighter, and Tactical Surface Fighter are high on the list for me.
Labor, Personal Trooper, and Arm Slave are at the bottom.
>>14307818
I think they're trying to say "Megadeuce"... which is pretty awful.
>>14307921
>>14308155
Does "Guymelef" have some real-world reference attached to it somehow?
Landmate
or
Destroid
Battlemechjust kidding
Fuck all-ah-y'all, Battlemech is an awesome name.
>>14308964
What are those? Battlemechs for ants?
>>14308975
They're 1:285 scale, clearly.

It's kinda crazy how hard the demons got wiped in the Sakura Wars universe. I mean, they went from a global threath that warranted a world war to something small teams of specialists could stop without ever missing a beat on their reasonably challenging day-jobs.
>>14308994
What does that even mean in English?
>>14307791
The mechs I doodle are called AWAS - Armored Walking Arsenal Systems as they carry multiple weapon systems by default in/on their bodies
>>14309160
There's one that's specialized for combat in tropical vegetation. It's called a Jungle Armored Walking Arsenal System, or JAWAS.
>>14309046
Tactical Surface Fighter
>>14309163
Yup, its great in desert areas too
Colossal Engine
It was the name of the mechs in my tabletop setting
>>14307791
Mobile Infantry

IRON LEAGUER.
But >>14308606 too.

>Wanzer - because it is the most plausible and militaristic mecha
Just the Japs mispronouncing Panzer. Since the term is too close to a real world tank, I dobut they'd use it.
TSF
>>14309935
Wasn't it supposed to be short for "walking Panzer"?
Tactical armour
Massive Armored Unit
UHAT.

Trooper
>>14309935

From what I remember in FM3 internet thing, it's actually a short for "Wanderung Panzer". Because German is cool language for machinery (also see: SEED Omni Enforcer weaponry names)
Panzerkampfwagen

Dat patched-up Sakura, goddamn.

In my novel I went for (noun) Frame. So the police-type the protagonist uses is a Riot Frame and the military types are Combat Frames. Simple and clean.
>>14307791
Walker Machine
>>14307791
Jaeger
>>14307805
As usual first response is the correct one.
Mortar Headd
The names I came up for the novel I'm writing is Gadget God for the main mecha, and Gallant Gear for the secondary ones.
>>14321516
I prefer Electric Knight
I'm a fan of Lost Planet's choice of Vital Suit, but still Armored Trooper is still best name.
>>14321896
Gallant Gear I like but Gadget God just sounds like a youtuber with too much disposable income showing off his new VR headsets.
>>14321959
Well I am going for a rather "classic" approach here, so to speak. No mass-produced mecha, fantastical powers and all the things that normally come with them. Just following tradition and giving it a name that makes it seem superhuman in the same vein as Super Beast Machine God Dancouga, God Sigma, God Gundam and the like. Naturally, I have a maximum of two Gadget Gods that will appear.
Also, the main mech's name also starts with a G so I can bait GaoGaiGar fans with their favorite alliteration.
Heavy Metal
>>14307791
Mechanoid
Battlemech
Walker Machine
Machine Weapon
Titan
>>14323169
whoops, read it as "most generic"
>>14307791
Robotech.
I for one am in love with Aestivalis
In Gankutsuou, they apparently called the mecha "Companions" I really liked that.
Oh and Decimator. Definitely decimator.
>>14307805
This
>>14323187
They're not called, "Robotechs," in Robotech. The generic term that Robotech uses is actually Mecha.
>>14323321
Aestivalis is a specific model. It's been a while since I've watched it, but I'm pretty sure that the catch-all term for mecha in Nadesico was just, "robots."
>>14309160
>>14309251
Mine are called Titan Runners because they were originally used to harvest and transport hydrocarbons from Saturn.
>>14323663
Ooh, thats good shit. Clever wordplay is the best wordplay.
Colossus Engines (not Colossal, typo on my part) were weaponized tools of this super far-future society.
The basic set up was there was a bi-planetary system, with two planets orbiting each other (think a planet sized moon). The denser of the two planets was the magnet for asteroids, and when it was colonized they built an Ace Combat 4-esque cannon array to shoot down the meteors. When war broke out between the two planets, the faction of the dense planet built a connected series of mass drivers called the Behemoth Axis that launched manned machines to set engines onto priority asteroids and send them flying towards enemy ships/bases/other asteroids/etc.
Essentially they started using these machines to fight the invading army and the players controlled them.
>>14307791
Robot
>>14307791
Im quite partial to Heavy Gear, as it sounds awesome. Battlemech is also acceptable
Mobile Suit/Armor is probably my favorite. Sounds great pronounced in both english and engrish, and MS/MA is a great shorthand that sounds nice and is instantly recognizable.
VF is cool too.

In MUH SETTING mechs are relatively small machines standing a little more than twice the hight of your average soldier. Officially they're called Squad Mechanised Infantry but most soldiers just call them Killer Cans. The moniker comes from the name given by soldiers to early single man powered armor suits that where designed only to withstand heavy anti-personnel weapons, when the enemy got wise to this and started carrying anti-material ordnance and IEDs to deal with powered armor units just as easily as they had dealt with conventional infantry in the past, soldiers, disillusioned with the promises of squads of invincible ironmen, started refering to their powered armor as, tin cans, as it provided about as much protection.
Military weapons designers having learned from the failings of the powered armored initiative and did away with the concept of armored infantry squads entirely, instead consolidating the power of several powered armors into a single unit with the protection to withstand high explosives and 20mm cannon fire, and enough firepower of its own to suppress enemy infantry. These powerful SMIs were assigned 1-3 to a squad and were viewed in much the same way as their previous failed counterparts by the men and women fighint along side them, as they performed much the same role. SMIs however performed exceptionally in their intended role as squad level infantry support, earning the admiration or soldiers in all branches of the military and with it a new moniker. SMIs became widely knows as Killer Cans (sometimes spelled Killer Kan), a name which serves to emphasise their superiority over their "Tin Can" powered armor predecessors.
