I've played a hundred or so hours at this point. It's a nice 4x game that needs a completely overhauled combat system. Once they tweak it a bit, it'll be worth playing, until then, after you get to "mid/late game" it blows. Not to mention the "random" events are a lot less random your 3rd and 4th play through.

The sector system is absolutely horrid. Its a chore to micromanage them because the sector AI is stupid. Fleet management UI needs to be improved.

There is definitely some issue with formation. If i have a huge mixed fleet, i found most of my large ships not engaging the enemy because they are out of range, the smaller ships at the front is in the way. I ended up dividing fleets based on types or into smaller smaller fleets, which can be a pain with the shitty UI

Yeah, I find the best strat on the current patch to be build what you want there at base, and allow ai to upgrade so they don't spam 400% food necessary. Not being able to transit food is so fucking lame, how hard would that be to implement, at least within your sector or owned space.

stellaris' combat at it's core is largely no different than any other paradox game, it's all about the numbers game the major difference here is you can customise your units and you can see them in do things combat (but still not be able to take control of things) as opposed to CK2's or EU4's more abstract representation.
