It's probably more that since Omega moves around and bends a lot more than Alpha, the suit actor needs more freedom of movement, hence the abundance of stretchy spandex on the legs. Alpha's suit is a tougher yet far less flexible vinyl.

Well, the thing is that there was nothing around to suggest that he could have fallen onto it. He would have needed a ladder to get that high to get onto the stump and then would have had to fall on it in such a way that half his body was slumped over on the wires without the wires just snapping. Or he would have needed a crane or a car that lifts people up just to make it there.
