I'll give AdEva this: for a tabletop group that's ADD about finishing games, we managed to run two AdEva campaigns to completion. I even GMed one, and I'm not a terribly good GM.

That said, the system is still really shitty. v3 is simultaneously better and worse than 2.5, but both suffer from a lot of the same issues, like how your accuracy starts off utter garbage at first and then later it becomes impossible to miss. Both games also suffer from giving you lots of potentially cool shit and then punishing you mercilessly if you try to use any strategy that's not dual-wielding prog knives. You spend huge amounts of turns doing nothing to the Angel and then suddenly someone kills it in one or two shots.

The sad thing is that for all its flaws I think adeva might actually still be one of the best mecha RPGs around.

Like, adeva has some problems, but somehow the other mecha games out there manage to be even more autistic or clumsy.

Played only half a short campaign with it. All the tables and abilities are really nice but the mechanics aren't that good/balanced. We switched to Silhouette Core halfway through the campaign.

Since we're talking about quests and Eva, have you guys seen the Evangelion Quest they have over at /tg/? The OP drawfags a lot and there's non-stop happenings.

It's an awful, awful system. You can have fun with it, but most of the fun is just bantz and interacting outside of angel fights. Play Battle Century G / Battle Century Z instead. It's a much better mecha game that actually knows what it's doing, and you can adapt it to Evangelion super easily. G is like the base game, Z is an expansion with everything from magic to insanity.

Seconding this. BCG is a great all around system for running mecha stuff. I've played a couple games of it to completion while every time I play AdEva, it's a clusterfuck and gets cancelled a few sessions in.

To tell you the truth, I think /qst/ was an awful idea too.

/tg/ did have a neat board culture once, but it's been gone and dead for a long time, and if you remove the quests it's just going to turn into a boring mess of system-based general threads with none of the old memes and general fantasy/sci-fi/IMAGINATION bullshit. I don't want another /vg/.

Quests were being shunted to /tg/ because /a/ and /co/ wanted them off their board. Thus /tg/ came to host unending waves of insipid "Anon-kun, what waifu will you pursue?", a half dozen Shit-Witches Quests, and a handful of Capeshit Quests (which actually had the decency to die off quickly once forced off their native boards). The only board that keeps their own quests is /mlp/ because the Anti-pony rules trumped the unwritten quest rule.

Its not exactly the best system by any stretch, but with the right group and GM it can work and be damn good but that much is true of any system. It seems like AE has, unfortunately, as an homebrew 'done its time'. Something something zeitgeist of eva's return to mainstream fading something something Eva Q sucking. I know, purely speculation on my end with little of it truly proveable but I suspect the letdown of Eva 3.0 and the constant drama related to AE's development and no one being satisfied with either versions (V3 sucks and VB seem to lack any further development).

There are still people playing it, obviously.

It was functional as of the open beta 3.1 I had back in last May, I don't know if there's a newer version since then. Hopefully it reduce Angel defenses a bit: I played an AT specialist who used a Positron Rifle that literally could not do damage to the Angel, not even Soft Damage, without rolling a 10, which at 51 Firearms was a 5% chance of happening. The combat lasted six hours and I didn't even get to fucking Berserk at the end, the one cool thing I was looking forward to, because it was 4 AM.
