To be fair, the GuAIZ design is intended to evoke a high-end feel. It's the Gelgoog analogue in the series it first appears in. Not so much for the ZAKU which is the new mainline grunt that would spread everywhere by series' end.

New and mainline, one generation ahead, but still relegated to be a prevalent background grunt at the end of the day.

My biggest gripe with the scene from OYW was the Zaku not taking its heat hawk to the cockpit of the gundam once its gun failed.

See apparently Has a Zaku Take out a Sword and stab a downed Gundam in the cockpit but lul sword bounces off i stopped desiring to even try and watch Seed or its bastard Children after that.

That's just entirely plot armor. Gundarium is still plenty vulnerable to heat weaponry, but when fighting the protagonist mecha, your IQ drops 80 points and you have an uncontrollable anxiety attack for no reason.
It's much like how in 8th MS Team NOBODY thinks it's a good idea to stab Shiro with a FUCKING LIT heat weapon, instead opting to just leave them off in close combat.

Not the original guy, but SEED and its related series have the most number of "explicitly different" Gundam-types shown utterly shredded by mass-production MS.

Strike Gundam escapes the chopping board because Rau's GuAIZ didn't finish it off. Ironically no grunts are ever shown taking down a Destroy so the Destroy escapes that humiliating distinction too.

Victory loses a fair number of Gundams due to Oliver and the Shrike Team getting rekt while piloting Victory types; however, Katejina is the one mostly doing the sweeping, the Gottrlatan isn't a grunt unit at all, and you only have the Hexa representing, and the one V2 core fighter in Oliver's case. Against the vast majority of other units, the Victory types hold out fairly well.

Logic dictates that X should have the most number of Gundams lost due to the Gundams supposedly being mass-produced with their corresponding Bit MSes, but since I'm not sure how many actual Gundams of the X, Leopard, and Airmaster series had existed, I won't say anything more about that.

Of course, if the Rick Dias can be considered a "Gamma Gundam", then Zeta might give the other examples a run for their money; otherwise, they only have the Psycho Gundam to show for this comparison (iirc the Psyco Mk. II would later be repaired and used in ZZ by NZ).

In X, the Airmaster almost got taken out by a bunch of grunts with flamethrowers during the Ennil arc. That's before episode 10. It wasn't actually taken out, but only due to a third party saving him in the last moment. The Airmaster eventually was heavily damaged while fighting against a bunch of mass produced MAs though, leading to its upgrade.

Late into the series, you've also got something like the Crouda, which although mass produced fights on par with the Gundams and Lancerow almost destroys the Double X in their first battle - yet again with it being saved by a third party at the last moment.

There's also stuff like the newtype dolphin 2nd episode where a bunch of torpedoes stop right when they were about to hit the Gundams.
