The show never acknowledged Astray outside the first OP that had Red Frame in with the other Gundams. In this case Chiba was just trying to patch the glaring hole in the plot. Even the patch still has holes in it, though, since we see the cockpit melted. Not Chiba's fault, there just wasn't any clear way out of this.

I've seen this argument so many times. Here's the fucking deal. You start reading the EU stuff for the Cosmic Era, it begins painting a different story than the show. Let's just look at Kira's survival here. Astray states that Lowe cut open the Strike's blast shield and carried the injured Kira through a storm to Reverend Malchio's house.

What SEED proper says is that Malchio found Kira in his prayer garden (which is shown to be the dirt in front of his house). No mention of Lowe is made at all despite this being planned, no hints of a greater universe outside of the show's narrative (just look at the waste of the Cosmic Era's backstory).

Realistically, there is no reason for blind priest to not say "someone found you and brought you to me." Astray paints him and Lacus as lying to Kira, when the show wants them to be the big goods of the setting.

Or take how Lacus is shown taking care of orphans in Destiny and wanting to live a quiet life while other materials has her creating Terminal, an organization that commits massive acts of espionage to further her goals and creates some of the best MS in the series.

The extended universe of the Cosmic era is a mess. If this shit was all planned, these things should be integrated far better.
