I really like the tone of Zeta and do not want to see it get raped. I will just assume the ending of a new translation is what happens, and then continue on to Char's Counter Attack

It keeps a more lighthearted tone throughout most of its run, but it does get better once they get off Shangri-la around 10 episodes in. I think by then most people drop it. Still not great afterwards, and you have to be in a certain mindset to really get into it, but I personally enjoyed it.

Shinta and Qum are still on the Argama, but they aren't nearly as intrusive. And I think they get dropped off at some colony later, but don't quote me on that.
Other than them, I think there's just Judau's younger sister Leina and Puru. Leina doesn't show up for much of the series and Puru is kind of a major character.
Puru's cute though.

Be warned though. Two of the main cast members, Beecha and Mondo, can be really annoying for a while. Their actions make sense given their characters and they get much better later on, but for someone who just wants to see the AEUG crew do well, they can be a real pain in the ass.
Kind of like Reccoa, but less illogical and they actually end up redeeming themselves.

ZZ is based.
Cast is great, first half is great, second half is great. Everything was great.
It's just not a Zeta sequel.
And considering number of problems in Zeta, I don't think it's really a bad thing.
