/v/ chiming in here, but what are some good mech games? I've only ever played ZotE and Titanfall besides a handful of Gundam musous. Really starting to get interested in the concept.

Virtual ON, particularly Oratorio Tangram.
>>
>>14082273
Is the Dreamcast version worth playing or would I be better of emulating MAME/arcade?

The Dreamcast version is pretty much unplayable with the actual Dreamcast controller. There exists a Virtual ON Twinstick controller, but it's expensive to get ahold of these days. I don't see any below $100 on eBay right now.

If you don't already have the twin stick and aren't willing to shell out a ton for it, the you're probably better off with a different version.
>>
>>14082368
I'm willing and able. Mechs are really fucking cool to me out of nowhere again.

>>14082365
This has been spoken of as though it were a gem on /v/, and it's freeware too, so I'll check it out now.

Out of curiosity, any PC games that run pilot sticks? Any mech games, console or standard controllers still apply, but I own a pilot stick already and if I'm gonna wait on some peripherals and console games, would be cool to mech around soon.
>>
>>14082437
>Out of curiosity, any PC games that run pilot sticks?

I'm trying to find a reason why a PC game wouldn't allow you to use a stick. At worst, some of the older ones won't recognize some parts or buttons.

FF VI.

>>14082629
My apologies in advance then, but let me reiterate and say, I'm interested in the concept of large robots that can be piloted, whether remotely or by humans. Whether this implies they're agile or lumbering doesn't phase me, but I do like the ability to boost in directions to evade attacks.

>>14082639
I love FF6 and have poured hours into it.

>>14082617
Anyone commonly viewed as the best or a good entry point? People talk up Armored Core a bit, but it seems to be more of a niche than anything.

>>14082520
I meant optimized for more specifically, but I'm sure most controllers, flight sticks included, can be reprogrammed for those games.

The first Armored Core is a good place to start, it can take a little bit to get used to the controls but once you do it's tons of fun. It's also $6 on PSN so it's not a particularly big investment if you don't like it. If you want something a bit more modern, 3 is a reboot of the series plotwise. 4 and for Answer are pretty good too but are very different from the earlier titles. Whatever you do though, do not start with Last Raven. It's basically a final exam for Armored Core fans and is up there with Ninja Gaiden Black as one of the hardest post-5th gen games ever made.

Armored Core 4A, VD, and nexus are the best in the series (Nexus mostly due to the follow up to Last Raven). All of them are fairly easy to get into since Nexus started the new control format.

Mech Warrior 3 is my favorite MechWarrior game

Virtual on and One must fall for your fighting game feels

Shugo and pic related are cool for their mixed arms elements

Brahma Force is cool. Probably nostalgia but I thought it was rad as shit AND the plot made no sense as a kid

Heavy Gear 2 is awesome real mecha action

Future Cop LAPD for top down shooter fun

Krazy Ivan, if only for the intro

The Gundam Extreme Vs. games are really fun, but you'd have to import them and it's best to have friends to play with.

>>
Rainbow six: mech edition
>>
>>14082159
Super Robot Taisen Original generation 1 and 2 are fun and in english if you like SRPG's

MS Saga a new dawn is a decent enough Gundam RPG.

Armored Core is really great if you like customization of units and great action.

Xenogears is damn fun but ridiculously convoluted.
>>
>>14083488
Is this game like that Monsters of Destruction game or whatever on PS2? The kaiju one where you can local 1v1 and shit. I'll check out gameplay and see if it's my avenue.

>>14083580
>>14083655
I'm fine with antiquated or clunky controls, as long as they contextually make sense and can be fluid in the long run. I downloaded MechWarrior 2 and it's a lot of fun for just running it on a numpad. I'll probably just end up emulating as I don't own a PS3/4. I know all the MW games are freeware at this point so I'm testing them out by release. What do you mean by mixed arms elements though?

>>14083818
Love Mega Man, and I've heard good shit about Steambot. Robotrek is new to me, so I'll check it.

>>14083993
Is Xenogears connected to the new Xenoblade Chronicles or whatever?
>>14083970
>>
RAD is awesome, but it's pure single player and much more about making you feel the size and heft and clunkiness of a big-ass robot.
>>
>>14084670
There's on foot elements and even some stealth play in G-nome as you can set your mech's FoF ID and works great if you hijack one of their units. There's also tones to pilot besides just the mechs

Shugo is the same with FPS + Mech elements and the mechs can transform.

The AC controls are rough, I preferred the old method but that's just due to years of muscle memory build up.Once I got used to the modern ones I probably wouldn't go back.

That said the original is great and easy to digest from a gearhead perspective and fun

MW2 is very dry. 3 has a neat campaign and a build mode similar to 2. from 4 on they switched to hard points, which makes sense from a lore perspective but I always preferred mounting whatever I wanted

>>
>>14083655
G-Nome was kinda shit. Roping AI pilots out of their mechs was pretty OP and the graphics and the general feel just wasn't there.
Better play Earthsiege or that FPS strategy game about the US and the Soviets dunking it out on the Moon and other planets.
>>
What are some first-person mecha games? I keep trying to look that up but all I find is Hawken, Titanfall, Mechwarrior and Shogo. Some amount of melee would be cool, but if there are as few of these games as it seems, I'll take whatever I can find.
>>

There's
Rise from the Ashes: ttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYAzIRidef0
which is pretty nice overall. too bad you need a dreamcast/emulator for it.

I'm hopeful for Titanfall 2

I've seen the artists at respawn and they are definitely /m/ dorks

The first two Lost Planet games are pretty cool /m/ stuff. I'm really fond of the Drio suit.

Neither one is AAA materiel, especially by today's standards, but the variety in designs and the LP2 story makes it among my favorite /m/ franchises. It also has a gattai easter egg and you get to rob a desert battleship on hoverbikes with your gang of space mexican banditos.

LP3 accidentally became a Dead Space knock off, don't bother with it.

>>14084715
This just sounds badass anon. I don't know what it is yet, but I already want it.

>>14084786
You're talking Battlezone 1998, which definitely feels dated controls-wise, but it's a lot of fun. Reminds me of Planetary Annihilation but first person.

>>14084714
G.nome/Shugo sound badass anon. I'm a gearhead, as in I love engineering, so hopefully AC is up my alley as well. Is 1 considered dry as well? 2 felt like a big upgrade from my hour spent in 1 last night

>>14086189
Lost Planet 1 & 2 defined a few years of my life as a late teen, but I could certainly run through them again. I was personally fond of the Hardballer I think it was called? Whatever one your dad has in the beginning when he holds off the big Akkrid. Had a sleek, interesting design.

Xenoblade has nothing to do with Xenogears, or Xenosaga for that matter.

Saga's pretty /m/ too, but be warned before playing either Saga or Gears, the story is pretty damn complicated.

>>
>>14086841
>Xenoblade has nothing to do with Xenogears, or Xenosaga for that matter.

Other than thematic connections regarding gnostic mythology.

Which to be fair is, in addition to being a Tetsuya Takahashi helmed project, really all you need to earn the Xeno- prefix if you think about it.
>>
>>14086841
Also be warned that if you play Xenoblade Chronicles X, you will not be satisfied with the ending. No exaggeration here: it's objectively impossible to consider it a good ending. Explaining why would require spoilers though.

I still had a lot of fun in the ~100 hours I sank into it though, and it was still worth playing. Just not for the plot. Or the characters either, for that matter.
