I've seen VOTOMs. It's good. I wouldn't fault anyone for not seeing (or not liking) it though.

I have seen the first red shoulder OVA and the first episode of the tv series, is that enough op?
I liked it, but i am still trying to finish zeta rn

>>

But it gets talked about on /m/ alll the time though
>>
>>14069283

Is there any reason why I should? As far as I can tell its just another old mecha anime with a small but vocal fanbase. It doesn't seem to have done anything especially noteworthy or have had a lasting cultural impression.

If I am sitting down to watch a new show, is there any real incentive for me to have that show be VOTOMS over anything else?
>>
>>14070246
If you follow this rationale for everything there's no reason for you to watch anything.

Why not watch it because it's entertaining?
>>
Because I'm a faggot who hasn't made the time for it yet. I'm sorry OP.

Actually, for those of you going to start VOTOMs, why not do Dougram first? They're both by the same dude, and VOTOMs is a spiritual sequel to Dougram.
>>
>>14070306
because VOTOMS is the one that's popular and that's probably for a good reason
>>
>>14070335
Both of them are pretty good, honestly I'm not sure why VOTOMs is more popular. Dougram was popular enough for 75 episodes, but VOTOMs got sequels.
>>
>>14069283

I got bored with seeing nothing but scopedogs. Gundam was a lot more interesting with its rich and complex variety of Mobile Suits and realistic characters, VOTOMS felt like I was watching the same thing over and over again. Highly overrated.

This. VOTOMS is like one of those fancy European cheeses where all the cheese connoisseurs praise its complex flavor and texture, but then when you manage to actually afford and try it it just tastes like maggoty soap. Awful show, would not recommend, stick to Beyblades if you're into that sort of thing.

Fair question. As far as the most "unique" of Ryosuke takahashi's mecha shows that definitely would be dougram. In what feels like an anime tribute to the film "battle of algiers" a group of guerilla fighters struggle against a tyrannical dictator. Very familiar setting, but the anime is unique in the way that it focuses on details of warfare that other mecha anime and even other real robot anime ignore. If your into real robot at all, its definitely worth at least a look. Lots of people arguing space politics as well, if your into that.
>>
I just bought the DVD set and pretend to have watched it.

>>
>>14070249
>If you follow this rationale for everything there's no reason for you to watch anything.
Not true, there's plenty of works whose influence stretched far beyond simply their original release.
>>
>>14070343
>but VOTOMs got sequels.

That's because every couple of years Takahashi has a lightbulb turn on in his head and he suddenly wants to do more VOTOMs.
>>
>>14069283
Mech shows are retarded, I am only here because for some reason this is also the Toku board.
>>
Why does Takahashi seemingly not want to do anything that isn't Votoms-related? Is it because Galient was completely overshadowed by it?
>>
>>14069703
Every single manga and anime is a "shitty toy commercial" since every last one has a toy line over there.
>>
It's too long and I use up too much of my data on pornography as it is.
>>
>>14071102
People like you ruin this place.
>>
>>14070343
What would a dougram sequel be about?
>>
>>14071124

It's only a toy commercial if it was built for the intention of selling toys. We call it that because most of us grew up with 80s cartoons, and that's all most of them were. TMNT, Real Ghostbusters, GI Joe, Transfomers, He-Man. All for the express purpose of selling toys.

You can't call something a toy commercial when people just made toys of it to capitalize on the show's success. Unless the show introduces something JUST to have a new toy be shown off.

We know that Earth was in a bad condition with its huge population, food requirements, and neverending squabbling between its seven states, besides that there were plenty of Combat Armor battles that took place in the Deloyeran rebellion (both of them really!) without the FoTS's involvement. We also know that there were colonize-able planets near Deloyer which Earth was jockeying for.

Crinn's desire to return to Deloyer combined with all of this and the ending results also has some potential

Plenty of potential IMO, but considering what Takahasi does sometimes I think I'll echo the sentiment I head once in a thread long ago, namely that Dougram is best left alone.

Nearly done with Tv, ep 49.
I dunno whether to watch OVAs or not due to suffering. Where do I start from with them?

Also honestly it's aight. Mecha Vietnam was my favourite arc. Liked side characters and the fact we got mechas that weren't Scope Dogs.
My issue is the variation is limited. Everything felt the same until weg ot Snapping/standing Turtle and Diving Beetle(Kummen), Zwerg(Quaint), Fatty(Sunsa, but it felt too similar to Scope Dog outside of eye and colour scheme, granted it is it's Balarant counterpart to SD).

I enjoy the Scope Dog's design, looks cute and a bit unique, but would be nice for AT variations with spider legs, or forgoing arms while still retaining some semblances to be called an AT.

Considering fate of Votoms sequels , it is best left alone.

I still don't entirely understand what Abnormal Survivors are but I think its radical, and it makes me want to watch this show sometime.
>>
>>14073564

Abnormal Survivor is the name for someone who survives anything. I don't mean, like the Kira way, because they can still get hurt and their friends all die, but they always get by on the skin of their teeth

It turns out being an Abnormal Survivor means that you are part of a race of super humans who are good at murdering everything. And the main protagonist is one, but he decides to break fate by murdering God. With an oversized handgun.

Watch the show.
>>
>>14073543
It's a pretty short story about Chirico's first actions after the end of the show. The action and production values are good but there aren't any high video quality rips of it. Very little of the original cast appears but you get to see Rochina as a crazy old guy.

If you didn't like the show's ending I'd recommend watching it.

I'm in a similar boat to that guy. I watched Mellowlink as a sort of one-off, never intending to watch the rest, but Mellowlink was so damn good that I wanted more. The first episode of VOTOMS proper was also fantastic.

Then there was an abrupt change of pace with the biker gangs and the annoying sidekicks. The thing with the prototype is promising, but I can tell it will take twenty goddamn episodes of "My fate... was linked... with hers..." before anything happens. Meanwhile, instead of watching a silent mech pilot do his thing, I'm watching him sit in the back of a truck while a pink-haired girl screams her lungs out at old-trickster and trickster-with-afro. The atmosphere change has given me the strongest whiplash I've experienced since reading Berserk.

I don't want to complain or judge too early, though. I think I just screwed up by watching Mellowlink first (and raising my expectations), when it looks like Mellowlink has all the parts I like about this series in distilled form.

Chirico isn't quiet because he's a stoic badass and all. He's quiet because

1. He just got the shit tortured out of him
2. Most of the time, he doesn't know what to say in a conversation so he says nothing.

Remember, he's just an 18 kid, a kid that's seen hell and would rather not talk about it. I will say though, make sure you ALWAYS watch the next episode previews for Votoms. They're all done in monologue style by Chirico and give a lot of insight to his character and personality.

It's in my backlog. Along with Logh.

Truth is, it's been in my backlog for years but I just never get around to it. I dont know why.

Know how you feel.

Forgot for years to pick it up after backlogging.

Oh, that's a damn shame. My release doesn't sub the previews for some reason.
>>
>>14091263

It's not just that; the things Banjo Ginga says during the previews are ridiculous, like the infamous bitter Woodo coffee line.
>>
>>14069283
Didn't feel the need to continue watching. First arc was self contained and Chirico already learned the true meaning of friendship at the end.
>>

Sounds like sex song despite knowing the lyrics and meaning.

Does anyone have a collection of those?

I always found those poetic, like Chirico is a beatnik holding coffee while saying these.

I have this one but that's it.

I think he just wants to not revisit stuff that he finds done... Although I guess that doesn't explain why he ruined the perfect ending that VOTOMS had.
>>
>>14093104
I found them poetic too. They're all like that, really. I found the "bitter coffee of Woodoo" wouldn't be out of place in a book. Metaphors yo.

If he only didn't do shining heresy.
Or anything chirico related post 35 years.
Why did she have to die though?
>>
I've watched about thirty episodes. Might get around to finished it later on.

Well I'm slowly going through epilogues over the couple of days I have free time.
Ep 1
> After escaping Rochina's clutches, Chirico once more descends into hell. In the aftermath of destruction dwells violence and desire... In a new sodom born of the Hundred Years War.Evil and treachery, corruption and confusion. All ground together as though poured from the same concrete mixer. Melkia's very own Gomorrah. Next week, Chirico takes you with him into hell.
Ep 2
>The predator, the prey and the scavenger of the scraps. A violent city where one cannot survive without fangs. A city armed with every manner of vice: Woodo. Melkia's Sodom born of the Hundred Year war. With the scent of cordite still clinging to him... Chirico finds himself surrounded by dangerous people. Chirco drinks, and the coffee of Woodo is bitter indeed.
Ep 2 Chirico after escaping bikers
>It was a place that smelled familiar to me. With only the cold feel of metal on my hands... A once dead warmth glowed new life into me. And feeling as safe as a child held to its mother's breast... Before I knew it I was fast asleep.
Ain't just the epilogues.
>>
If anyone doesn't mind, I'll eventually get through it in my free time, if they want me to continue. Got up to 6 done, missing Ep 1 beginning and the variations on a certain piece.
>>14094862
Ep 3 Post fight
>The flying bullets, the flames...Before my eyes lay a scene so familiar to me. I was back on the battle field. My VOTOMS and I.

Ep 3-
>Once there were grave warriors who followed the song of battle. Here now is a graveyard for the dignified defenders of their lands who wrap themselves in the thick armor of the Armored Trooper.Giving entertainment to countless Caligulas in their coliseum they are Woodo's gladiators. For the soulless VOTOMS themselves it offers the crashes that go along with their existence. From the rotating turret blazes Chirico's fierce gaze.

Ep 4 Battling thoughts
>I'd hear rumors of this. Unemployed veterans like me who would fight as gambling objects for the city's underworld. As the man said, a very familar scene was unfolding before my eyes. A scene completed by the presence of one detail. The place was overpowering with the sense of utter bloodlust. There was no pretense or restraint here. Everywhere was the familiar sense of danger threatening me.

Ep 4-
>An unexploded bomb can be the most dangerous kind of trap. Silent assassins lying in wait, sleeping deep in the earth. When they suddenly awaken, the false peace is broken. Woodo: A giant trap of a city. There, the fuse is lit and the unexploded bomb awakens. Chirico is the bomb waiting to explode.
>>
Done the stuff I've transcribed so far. Night.

Ep 5 Interrogation
>On the plains of Parumis. In Miyote sector. In the deserts of Oromu...

Ep 5 Noticing the limo
>As I saw the limousine speed away through the flames, I couldn't help thinking how incongruous it looked amidst the battle.

Ep 5-
>Is a person's fate ruled by God or chance? That is the eternal mystery that winds through the endless corridors of time. But the thing which changed Chirico's destiny was something known only as the prototype. The tremors of battle running through the darkness of Lido are now reborn in the city of Woodo. From inside a Jijirium shower a beautiful woman smiles.

Ep 6
>In the polluted sea that is Woodo, an ice flow known as the Prototype is hidden. Its secret roots are buried deeply and heavily beneath the water's surface. A man's destiny may be decided by a roll of God's dice but heaven and earth are the board upon which the pieces move. Whatever evil waits to appear enemies will cross paths in the quest for a secret. Will Chrirco risk his life yet again?

Ep intro 1-4(4 version)
>Gilgamesh and Balarant. For one hundred years now these two star systems have been locked in a war whose cause was forgotten long ago. As both sides, by now exhausted, prepared to finally end the war. I was ordered into an operation whose details were kept from me. There, my destiny was changed the moment I saw her.She was apparently the military's greatest secret. Since deserting the army, I'd come to the city of Woodo. But the battleground city was like hell itself and contained every level of depravity.

If you didn't like the show's ending you're a tasteless faggot. There are things I liked in Shining Heresy but it shits all over the ending.

you are blissfully ignorant about what gets a show approved for production in the first place.

I choose to stay ignorant then.

though it can be that if the work is self-funded
>>
Out of curiosity when do the OVAs overlap with the main series? I just finished Big Battle which was pretty great and had some nicely animated sequences.
>>
>>14109666

Things that are self-funded are never good, Satan.

Afro Samurai, the original work before they animated it

You may not like it, but it was exactly what it wanted to be.
>>
>>14111545

Garo as a franchise may make money off of pachinko, but the shows themselves are funded almost entirely out of Amemiya's pocket because he created it and it's his baby. It's why he has unlimited creative control with the work.

Doesn't make either of them good now does it?

Garo's had one bad season out of 6 live-action shows and 2 anime
