The only thing more out-of-line with the rest of the franchise than Turn A is G Gundam. But while G Gundam has over-the-top super kung fu and hotblood, Turn A just has slice-of-life and laundry. She's likable, earnestly. You're looking at her as a set of typings. We're looking at her as a character - something from the sounds of it you should do more of.

Its very refreshing to see a girl in anime who's confident enough not to be a total emotional waif - that not smugness but pride in herself and her ability alongside that competitive streak is catnip to a lot of people who are sick of girls basically being children with breasts like Fumina who expect their partner to be like a father, not an equal.

The best thing is she knows when to back down. She's smart enough to appreciate the value of fighting another day. She throws herself passionately into what she cares about but she knows when to slow down so she can step it up again later.

That means she'll be doing this well into her adulthood. She's not into the sport because its a fad but because she earnestly enjoys it.

That enjoying something for what it is rather than what it brings is also very refreshing.

I don't see most of these traits in Fumina, who as a person is less developed (not to be confused with a less developed character) who does very little growing.

The worst thing about Gyanko is her interest in Sekai. That said, it could be explained away and is by most as her as a child seeing Reiji and those precious childhood memories still leaving a deep impression on her character.

These are all things which much of /m/ can empathize with.

Its such a shame that you need to reduce everything to the simplest parts and categories in order to try and understand why other people like what they like, anon. Are you lonely?
