I've seen a trailer for some jap game that looked like it did that. No idea if anything ever came of it.
But the idea is kind of obvious. I fully expect someone to at least experiment with it.
Personally, I can see a hybrid system working fairly well. You usually just use joystick controls, but holding the grip button on one hand maps that arm to yours.
