This. With a dedicated manga that was willing to set up a deliberate timeframe and give actual interaction between characters outside of supports, Awakening could actually be pretty good.

I'm not sure I'd call Kamui a Kira though. At least they felt at least a LITTLE conflict about the various stupid decisions they made, and said stupid decisions hurt people they loved instead of just working out somehow.

To be fair, 80% of the bench were characters who sucked unless you had max upgrades and used the save editor to get their stats into the 400s, due to @1 being part of the transitional period where reals sort of started to get finishers and dealt more damage.

I love how the RNG can give out some serious clashing within the casts it comes up with. This is really far more fun than it should be.

If it goes Alpha 3 the Phoenix and Turtle fans will be unhappy with the Dragon and Tiger focus, transforming attacks for a single base form will be seen as laziness, not many hold hope for a four-part combiner that has each form, etc.

Touma, then. The pink girl is Selena, the blue-haired girl is Kusuha, and the silver boy is Cobray.

They all get their own unique storyline and different mechs. You picked the guy who's tanky with a lot of powerful, short-range attacks. Selena is dodge melee, Cobray is dodge ranged, and Kusuha is dodge/tank ranged with a melee backup.

It dodges so often as long as it's on the ground in non-space stages that its armor doesn't matter.

Selena (pink girl): Melee real. People jizz themselves over her mapw, but for me the appeal is that she's a melee unit who's not full of pointblank attacks.
Touma (guy at the bottom): Melee super. He's pure power, with good armor and reasonably-decent dodging.
Kusuha (blue hair girl): Starts out in a pair of dodgy supers with her boyfriend, upgrades to a transforming super later on, but the boyfriend's unconscious so you can't use the other form for about seven or eight stages after you get it.
Cobray (prettyboy at the top): Shooting-based Real. Starter unit has good P attacks and an ALL that uses EN so it has more shots than Touma or Selena are capable of (they have ammo-based ALLs with bad ammo). Upgrade's only P attack is on the Melee stat but the finisher is fucking powerful since Cobray can learn Soul (so can Selena) depending on the birthday. Touma and Kusuha can't, because super pilots don't get it that often.

According to Akurasu, Kusuha can get it, depending on the birthday. Scorpio, Sagittarius, and Capricorn all get Soul as their final spirit.

I haven't tested this myself and I didn't translate the Kusuha birthdays, so that that as you will.

I wouldn't mind, but I'm sure it would cause problems with some people. I can't remember the story behind things anyway, so I can't remember why Shin even needs to eat up the others for a new form aside from wanting to give it an upgrade like the other MCs.
