Not to mention there are few genuinely likeable characters in IBO. Ein is a Jerid, Choco is Graham with Char's worst traits. Most of the orphans are completely missable, What's-his-name's ex machina harem is forgettable.

Mika is a worse Inaho. If they're trying to do Setsuna they're doing a shit job of it.

The only three sympathetic characters in IBO are Gaelio (about to get inevitably Char'd), Atra and Biscuit. At least A/Z had a main Slaine, Saazbaum, Rayet's eps and Mazuurek with better visuals and soundtrack to boot.

Good moments in IBO were Biscuit's shitty brother and the weapons part, but they were good moments reminiscent of UC brilliance in an utter pile of slop. Felt completely apathetic over Fumitan and Biscuit's death.

Not to mention NotChar killing NotGarma for the 500th time. Oh boohoo, yellow haired guy screwing over purple haired guy for the 90 millionth time? Just Another Rehash complete with cyber newtype haxx.

Kudelia and Mika look literally retarded the way they're drawn. While the Graze customs look ok, the originals look like someone on Deviantart painted them in the most disgusting palette they could find and the design is generic. Gusion is also way too clunky, like an obese Zaku rehash, not that it even matters because the mecha is a side story. It makes Asseylum's fishface and Saazbaum's completely impractical mech look god tier.

Soundtrack is also inferior. 'Raise your Flag' was better than the current generic shit and at least Sawano knows what he's doing.

What a wasted potential. Well hopefully there isn't last minute cuckoldry, that'd be something.

And yes, Mika is an near-emotionless kill-bot because that's basically all the show has shown him to be capable of. It feels like he hasn't developed at all and that he's still the same character we've seen in the first episode in that his defining characteristics are he likes his friends, he really likes Orga, and he really, really likes killing people, but now he also shook Kudelia's hand.

I mean, depending, static characters can be done well, but this is the guy who was basically advertised as the MC, or one of them. On the point of Setsuna, there was this really nice scene early on in 00 where he is just sitting in a normal park but then it turns to a war zone cause that's what he sees/feels. It is kinda like that one bit in Terminator 2. He's always used the alliance vagina system
He's always taken his cues from orga

He's always been proficient in the use of mobile workers, we're shown this as he has the most spines in his alliance vagina system so at some point they must have decided he has the most potential to have had the operation 3 times, so he gets the most use out of it.

etc. The only wildcard in his routines are:

- The new family business
- His new friends dying

This whole debacle right now is a result of Mika's defining character flaw, is that all he knows is violence and he will attack anyone who fucks up his friends.

Mika been inroduced into not using violence. He's legit amazed that Kudaleia was able to stop a fleet by talking. He's being introduced to these ideas, but he's still sticking with the stuff he's always known. Makes sense, since he wouldn't instantly change.

Also "Taken cues from orga." That's not fucking true. two episodes ago he was basically demanding Orga to keep going. While he was asking "where should we go" the subtext is, we're not fucking stopping. He also didn't tell orga all of what biscuit said. Orga was terrified of Mika at that point. I say, it's Mika calling the shots at this point. And given Mika's tunnel vision, it's time for payback for all of gjallhorn.

Mika and the rest suffer because the show has focused on developing Kudelia as an MC more than any of the orphans, even that isn't the way it should have done it at all.
In AZ Slaine eventually got the most development while everyone else stayed more or less static but compared to him Kudelia just terrible and can't hold the audience's attention unless she's showing off her tits. I don't even like Slaine but if you're gonna have a character be a blackhole of development/screentime at least make it something the audience can give a fuck about.

Finally got around to watching the last two episodes. How did they go from Shit Central to these? They were actually good. Psycho Ein was actually pretty damn cool, even if everyone jobbed really hard to him. Ein himself reached a nice point on the crazy spectrum. The story finally acknowledged that child soldiers are kind of fucked up, and that Mika is a demon. The fights weren't shit, even if it was mostly curbstomping. Mobile Workers had screen time, not just "lol they're in ur ship, killin ur dudes". McGillis was shown to be the one influencing quite a few things behind the scenes, and will finally have a real mobile suit battle. There was some tension for once.

It felt like Gundam again.

The question is, why the hell did it take this long? How did they drop the ball all the way through the space episodes, even the last one or two Mars episodes? What the hell were they thinking? As a result of all that wasted time, the payoff isn't totally complete. Eins only became relevant again just recently but now he's the Mobile Armor. Gay-lio's crying over Carta didn't feel bad because she was kind of a shit character. The contradiction between how Tekkadan was portrayed as having just cause before but only NOW they're bad. Mika and Orga's relationship was way too normal (and that's counting the few times they actually appeared on screen) for about 20 episodes.

So much wasted time, and for what?
