No, you get the whole fighter. Some fighter lines, like the VF-1S to the VF-1A, have slightly retooled engines and other beep beep boop stuff that aren't on the MP versions.

Others, like the VF-31A here, just plain don't resemble their family members as much.

Of course, if your rank is big enough, not many people can stop you from swapping heads to fuck around.
