But I like the Barbatos, Gusion Rebake, Kimaris Trooper and the Graze.

I also like the Grimgarde but it only had like 5 minutes of screen time, if even that.

I'm usually not that guy who gets shit on because of my opinion,but I really like all the suit designs in IBO despite the series being below par,and the Barbatos has been one of my favorite gundam design in a long time.
I know a lot of people complained about the waist being "impractical", but I thought it looked pretty cool and added something unique to the Barbatos besides that cannot be what you pick at with the design when the whole genre is impractical.
I also like the silhouette of the legs,especially when viewed from the sides,and the whole demon motif its got going on is done pretty well with some subtle things like how the feet look like hooves,the legs resemble the backwards bent legs of a goat and how the v-fin points back like demon horns

As for SEED/Destiny they were the first series I saw and I still love most of their designs,but everything looks the same,the whole reason most of the people who loved it never noticed the repeated stock footage was because the designs all took from the same 3 or 4 bases and just switched a few parts like heads,colors and backpacks. But that being said great designs still came out of that continuity.

Not everyone has the same levels of suspension of disbelief. They can accept the idea of mecha, implausible as it is, but the design still has to meet them halfway. In that regard, it's not THAT out there for people to have issue with the design's continuously unguarded/bare bones waist connector.

The nice thing about no beam weapons is you can't just blow someone to dust in one shot. You have to either keep hitting them with ballistics and whittle them down, or you have to get in there and dismantle them by hand. In theory, at least, that makes for longer, more gradual fights of rock em sock em robots. Also tends to let robots feel more like robots and not just giant tissue-paper silhouettes spouting lasers at other tissue-paper silhouettes.

Problem is that in IBO, they've kind of avoided having fights at all, let along long or well-animated ones. Any time they put in some real effort, the result is pretty good, but the rest of the time it's a bunch of off-screens, out-of-focus blurs, and jump cuts. Not much better than beam-spammity.

I think that the durability of mobile suits in IBO is actually inadvertently a problem more than a unique feature, actually, mostly because no one ever dies. Bullets just deflect off of most of the suits without any visible damage whatsoever, and so do many melee weapons. The only person with a noteworthy killcount is in fact Mikazuki, who has lugged around some large blunt object or another all series, and only on grunts at that.

Ironically, I think it makes them feel much less like borderline WMDs and more like a couple people bashing together action figures, especially when melee attacks end up being ineffective. When the MSs become utterly impenetrable fortresses, a lot of the tension in combat ceases to exist.

I just don't feel it when an MS gets blindsided by someone else and there's no consequence to their inattentiveness barring that they're now shooting their airsoft guns in a different direction. Tanks weren't totally invulnerable either. Most models did have their fair share of weaknesses, but while many of them did result in incapacitation, they at least resulted in incapacitation, not just a temporary retreat minus one or two nameless grunts. Even so, many tanks had been outright destroyed by all sorts of powerful explosives when getting caught off guard. If it felt like tank combat, I would've expected a savvy footsoldier to be able to sneak up on them and blow their legs off, but that never happens. In fact, I don't even recall seeing any missiles hit an MS at this point.
