Holy shit. I just watched the episode 49 of W. That ending was just so satisfying. The entire final arc just felt like HAPPENING nonstop, even it'll Utopia was a terrible end boss. It's just that the Ryuki stock footage is made extra grainy and probably shrunk down a bit, so it looks far less clear. I mean, if you've already watched Ryuki then spotting the footage should be pretty easy (keep in mind that they've been using the same stock fight locations for literally decades)

There's enough information in the one Wikia to at least edit in the discussions between characters in All Kamen Rider Generations at least. Based on the actual complaints, it just seems like most people can't stand Takeru, since he's just this hesitant hero with no stand out trait. Although based on last week's episode, maybe he's getting a befriending gimmick, considering how another Ganma ended up helping him.

Ghost so far is one of those cases where I like the side characters more than the MC. I don't really feel anything when Takeru goes on about his life burning bright. It feels like his entire character is just going though the motions.

Compare that Gentaro who was so engrossing that I actually felt bummed out alongside him during the episode where he was forced to dress in the standard uniform.

So is Ryuki the season where they really start kicking it off with the CG/special effects?

I don't remember nearly this many in Kuuga or Agito, especially not sparks like everytime they get hit.

Tsukasa seems to strike a good balance with a lot of people. The fact that a lot of people seem to like him and his actor despite the actual show getting a lot of hate is really telling.

I disagree that the reason people hate Takeru and Wataru is due to not being hot-blooded. Godai himself is very calm and mellow a lot of the time and Hibiki doesn't get hate as a character either.

Wataru is just very terribly written character in a terribly written show. Him shouting like a Super Robot MC wouldn't have made him more appealing. Like I said in an earlier post, Takeru's problem is just that there's just no conviction coming from his character. First arc is him being like "I really don't want to die and I guess I'll help people too" and he spent most of this second arc just being juggled between Alain and Makoto's drama. Him directly befriending Ganma is the first interesting thing I've seen him do.

I can't speak for Wataru because I haven't seen Kiva, but Takeru was just kind of bland at for the first couple arcs of Ghost. He's getting better now that he has more of a clear direction with his character (he's playing mediator between multiple different sides, bringing together all the Heroic Eyecons, striking a balance between Akari and Onari, trying to resolve Makoto and Alain's conflict, and now getting involved in the whole oncoming war between the Ganma world and the real human world.)

It wasn't that he wasn't hot-blooded, it's that for the start of the series, Takeru wasn't ANYTHING other than "designated protagonist".

Conceptually I really like the idea of the ending and what the movie was going for but the movie itself was kind of sloppy at parts and shows off some of Inoue's bad habits when it comes to writing. Like most of Inoue works, the ideas are great and if executed properly moments like this would be extremely powerful endings, but the build-up just falls flat.

I also like Ryuki's actual ending, reset ending and all, so maybe I'm not the best judge of good endings though

Takeru can be hard to like sometimes, and the writing can be strange occasionally but beyond that it's not that bad, enjoyable even.

As for the 'good' about it, I like Necrom a hell of a lot but I just can't bring myself to see him as cool as some other people seem to, knowing that inside he's the confused, pouty younger prince who doesn't understand basic human concepts. Which is something I love about the character, I think he's extremely fun to watch grow and change, but he's not what I would call cool or badass.

Though he had a moment last episode where he hinted at having some sort of supposedly frightening power, if he showed that off he might start being cool in my books.

I liked it, but it shares an issue with Project G4 in that it really didn't feel like anything more than a longer, higher budget version of an episode. With Project G4 it didn't really matter so much, because the rest of the movie was executed really well but it's really noticeable in Episode Final. It is a cool thing to watch if you take into account that it's almost certainly one of the the previous time loops that Kanzaki went through, maybe the one directly before the show even.

I will say the Ryuki vs Ryuga fight kicked ass, easily my favourite fight in Ryuki. It's nice seeing Shinji take the lead

Alien invasions is not a huge part of reality and growing up. Also Kaito had no fucking motive for anything he did in the series. Literal Shadow the Edgehog "I'll do what I feel like!"

Michy just kept swapping sides and his motivation for doing so was never shown. They make him out to be this cold calculating real villain of the series but he never becomes the real villain and he fucks himself over.

The only other main character is Takatora and despite doing the rider ptsd episode (which is actually one of the only good things in Gaim and should've been saved for much later in the series) is die three times.

Kouta is the second best character (behind Bravo) but he loses his charm before the episode can and the point of the series gets lost in the celestial war bullshit.

Now the main thing with Rider is it is excellent with writing and creating main characters with loveable and believeable motives. Even the over the top ones like Kabuto and Fourze, they back up their character. However the plots are, more often than not, half thought out.
Gaim's biggest problem is that it had good plot twists but absolutely despicable characters that believe they're much hotter shit than they actually are.

You could've replaced it with any other conflict from a Rider series. The actual nature of the conflict isn't the case, it's kids being thrown into a situation that forces them to account for their own characters and ethics when the stakes are much, much higher than just dance battles.

Kaito's ethic is that it's wrong to oppress the weaker with your own strength, but he also is faced with the cognitive dissonance that to use his power to advance in order to enforce that concept requires beating and oppressing other people in his path. He sees it as a necessary part of the world and human nature and HATES IT. There's an element of self-loathing to his character that really becomes pronounced when the Helheim poison starts killing him.

Micchy's ethic is that the people with power and resources are obligated to help those who do not, just like the example that Takatora shows. However he falls into the trap of thinking that he's smarter than everyone else in the room and he knows best what's good for everyone else. Takatora was willing to sacrifice pretty much EVERYTHING to try and protect others, Micchy doesn't have that conviction and instead sees the highest good to aim for as being comfort and security, rather than life and freedom itself.

that's the point - all of the main characters think they're hotter shit than they actually are, and the series spends its time beating them over their heads that they're not actually all that hot shit. And Kaito ends up being the major villain, which just highlights that he never really 'learns' this lesson, resulting in him losing. We can argue about whether or not Kaito's motive is good motivation or not, but he's clearly expressed his motivations and what he intends to do, so saying he has no motivation shows you didn't really pay attention to what he's doing.

Also alien invasions are just a metaphor - you know, the very fabric of any fictional story. Unless Rider magically becomes a slice of life show about teenagers growing up in suburban Japan and learning to become mature adults, with no supernatural elements in sight, it's to be expected that their character growth is filtered with the supernatural and the necessity of adding elements like monsters and fight scenes. In other words, no you mong obviously alien invasions are not a part of reality and having to grow up, but it's basically a stand-in for all the teenagers being forced to stop spending their time playing pokemon and dancing and instead have to actually do shit to keep on surviving in the world

Paradise Lost is agreed upon to be the best thing to come out of Faiz by Faiz fans, so get to it. This is more a jab at the writer than what happens in the series. I worded it wrong. You can tell he thinks he's writting these super original characters when all of them are copy pasted tropes.

However, what you're saying goes against the spirit of rider. Riders are hot shit that have their flaws revealed as time goes on. Rather than being human and becoming great, they're great that reveal how human they actually are.
Tendou is the greatest example of this. He is literally do nothing wrong until we realise why and that his entire plot is actually a majorly flawed and selfish revenge attempt.
Kouta never feels like he earns his god hood. You could choose any other main rider to replace him with and it'd feel like they deserved it.

The main concept of the show is that power doesn't corrupt, it just reveals what flaws you already have.

Kouta was the only one to recognize that and acknowledge the fact that BECAUSE he's not perfect, he can't use his power to try and make everything and everyone perfect.

Oh yes it is. As the stakes escalate he starts feeling like he has to compromise more and more to try and keep his friends safe. The biggest problem is that he starts treating his friends safety as the highest end rather than taking into account what THEY actually want as individuals.

He falls prey to the slippery slope because the goal that he aims for is completely screwed up and doesn't see where it's leading until it's too late and everything is ruined and Mai's fucking dead.

Whether or not he was a good enough person to become a God was irrelevant to Kouta, because becoming a God was basically a punishment to him.

There's a lot of things wrong with Kouta's character, the underlying theme about how power can cut you off from the more wholesome aspects of life was actually good.

Full Throttle kind of implies he can swing by and visit when he wants though. It's nice to see that being an immortal space god hadn't changed Kouta at all in that movie though.

Tendou is also the worst example because he learns nothing, changes nothing, and in fact is a bigger asshole at the end than when he started. Ryotaro, Shotaro, Eiji, Kouta and Tomari are all noticeably better people by the end of their show than the beginning. Gentarou isn't changed much, but that's because he didn't really have any major faults to begin with, and he's at least gotten better enough at schoolwork that we see he becomes a teacher in the future. Even Tsukasa is a bit less of an asshole at the end of Decade than he was at the start.

The only Riders I've seen who actively became worse people because of their stories were Tendou and Haruto.

The double Rider part of it was ruined for me by how after Kagami had finally manned up and beat the shit out of Tendou like he deserved, suddenly he starts verbally fellating Tendou out of fucking nowhere. It basically obliterated any good will I had left towards Kabuto as a show.
