>GoShogun: The Time Étranger
He was on fire in the 80's. Then after that all he does is Pokemon specials. What happened? And why doesn't anyone remember him?

>And why doesn't anyone remember him?
I never even heard of or seen those obscure 80s OVAs you just mentioned so I guess it's because they suck.
Maybe he just likes Pokemon?

ftfy

Hey fuck you, Yohko is...
well...
It was ok, I guess.
Let's not forget about Plawres Sanshiro, Magical Princess Minky Momo, the Goshogun TV series and the Three Musketeers anime as well.
That aside, I'm guessing that people really only know him for Pokémon, so he got shoehorned into working on its anime for the rest of his life (similarly to Yudetamago coming back to the first Kinnikuman series). Either that or he never got over his co-worker Takeshi Shudo's death.

>he took the bait

The OVA format died off, which is where a lot of his most creative works were. And his films likely didn't make that much.
Probably Pokemon is steady work and he needs a paycheck.

Oh, fuck it, wrong link.
I found it by a pure accident and was amazed how fun it was. It's one of the best children shows I've ever seen and the music is fucking fantastic.
I kinda wish the artbooks were not that hard to obtain. I managed to get the first Animedia book, but that's it.
>>13960988
Is the movie any good?
>>13960994
I still have to watch it
>>13960988
It helps that Live-Evil are doing that show, though they are slow as usual. I was lucky to have seen the French version as a kid.
>>13960940
Leda popularized Bikini armor.
>>13960940
Time E'tranger is fucking god tier you pleb. Literally the Patlabor 2 of Goshogun, except people don't hate it or call it a pretentious piece of shit.
>>13961031
>>13960940
And as far as I know, invented no face VN/Doujin guy.
>>13961038
ha!
>>13961038
heh heh
I liked the OVA though. The world was too empty (no people anywhere), but it was nice imaginative piece. And bikini armor.
>>13960929
If I remember well though, Windaria is exceptionally good.
>>13962696
>Windaria is exceptionally good.
It is. Yet it's hardly remembered.
>>13964323
I blame Streamline Pictures for this. They butchered the order of the story.
>>13964372
I'm actually somewhat curious to see the Streamline version.
blurays when?
>>13968751
Damn straight. Leda and Windaria deserve it by all counts, I think Goshogun might have been less artsy, but great piece anyway, so they should do it justice too.
>>13968965
>>13964372
>>13964383
That version butchered everything and changed around too much context, also added in needless narration, making it impossible to become invested in the story or the emotion.
Windaria and Leda both got better each time I've seen them.
>>13960940
you are a negro
>>13960941
He must at this point, consider the direction has gotten better over the years and not worse. If he disliked it I wouldn't think it would improve.
Are any of his Pokemon specials worth seeing?
Are they Patrician tier?
>>13971962
yes?
>specials
Yuyama has directed all 19 Pokemon theatrical movies, including this year's upcoming one. He's also been the chief director for every TV season. I'm sure it pays well.
I haven't seen most of the movies, but I like seeing the blog posts of his movie location scouts. He gets to travel to foreign countries every year for each movie.
>>13975329
You'd think this would give him the financial freedom to do more creative films or tv shows right? Doesn't he get bored of Pokemon?
>>13969945
Good thing it got subbed, then.
>>13975357
Like I said in >>13960955, it's likely that he never got over his co-worker Takeshi Shudo's death, so might as well see the latter's passion project to its end (even if that'll take forever).
