There's a big emphasis on Tekkadan and the action, Orga and Mikazuki, and them being hot-blooded fighters. Tekkadan are all standing in front of the Barabatos. There are guns, the stepping in the puddle of blood at the start. By all means, it gives the impression that it's an action oriented show about the guys. I counted - Kudelia is in the OP for a combined, grand total of THREE seconds. For one second being 00:47 - 00:48, and then from 01:25 - 01:27. Kudelia gives the impression of being a background character.

But instead of that (focus on Tekkadan's struggles with Kudelia being a minor character with only 3 seconds of screen time in the OP) we get crap. We barely see any revolutionary action, just the colony workers revolting. Even then, Kudelia and Tekkadan accidentally started that, it wasn't intentional at all.

The second OP removes the emphasis on the action, and a majority of the OP is panning shots of the crew looking glumly into the distance or just doing nothing. There's a major shift in focus onto Kudelia in the beginning, middle and ending of the OP. There's nothing, except the brief shot in the beginning, to show the bonds between the Orphans/Tekkadan, and their struggle. The struggle has been shifted to Kudelia, whose facial expression is fraught with "Oh no what do I do" and other tragic emotions.


So my theory is that, somewhere along the show's production, someone decided to change the show from being about Tekkadan to Kudelia. I don't know why the fuck they decided to do this, since and I know this doesn't mean much, but the viewing figures have drastically declined since it became more focused on Kudelia's role in the revolution and less on the Tekkadan bonds and their role.

The first OP gives a completely different IBO than the one we got after like, episode 3 or something.

The IBO show shown in OP1 is about a bunch of revolutionary young kids who have been oppressed and are fighting to claim their freedom. They fight shirtless in their mobile workers as Barbatos leads the charge against their enemies as they fight to survive. The story is about the brotherly bond between Mikazuki and Orga who will clearly have some kind of aniki/otouto relationship. Also there's some girls or something I guess, whatever they're not important.

The show we got is literally the opposite.

He's pissed at himself for resorting to underhanded tactics to kill sleeping soldiers. He's pissed that the man he feels is responsible for killing his wife bested him in combat. It would do Wufei no honor and wouldn't soothe his soul to kill Treize with his Gundam while Treize is on a boat.

Sometimes I wonder if the backlash the show got after Ep 3 made them keelhaul the story and go for a "safer" approach.

Then I realize it wouldn't matter if there was something to blame, because we got the result regardless.
