Field Repair

Basically what this means is that rather than the mobile suit being fresh out of a factory, it's quite the opposite. Whether it's trudging through dense jungles or dodging debris in asteroid belts, your mobile suit has seen some better days.
You've been out in the field for quite a long time now, nearly half a year of active duty in the front lines and your personal mobile suit's pretty banged up. What's worse is the fact that there isn't a maintenance bay within several thousand kilometers of your local area that's capable of making any major repairs. Your unit's engineering crew has resorted to patch work and jury-rigging to keep your machine operational. Stray fire might have crippled its legs and arms or otherwise dealt considerable damage to a mobile suit's systems meanwhile some units have simply lost bits of armor and panels to the elements and have been forced to patch weld metal sheets over the exposed inner workings.
In any case it's beaten to hell but somehow you and your team have somehow kept it chugging along and now command's ordered all units operating in your theatre to fall back to form a defensive line against the enemy offensive.

Just to let you know, witing your own basic LED is stupidly easy. Especially for something like a giant head like that. Just need a small bulb, a couple of basic watch batteries, and a wire. If you are just wiring a small LED to a small battery you don't even really need a resistor. They also sell battery holders for cheap if you don't want to make your own.

All in all you can make your own LED for under ten dollars with parts leftover for more LED and if you use twist wire you don't even need to solder anything.

There are a ton of easy to follow guides for LED out there on google.

All this fucking useless gimmick like sliding head panels. I love it.

Plastic quality has been surprisingly good so far. Compared to the FPM Exia R3 conversion kit (that I'm still working on) plastic quality, the Magic Toys one is miles ahead, including mold quality. Half the time you wouldn't believe it's third party plastic. (It's made in Taiwan) It is let down by a few silly runner gate placement and some unnecessarily large nubs but it is nothing common sense can't fix, nor is it a glaring fault compared with other usual nub placements on this kit. The plastic feels alright to work on and sand normally as opposed to maybe some 80s-kit-ABS-feeling oily plastic.

It's pretty obviously just some quick WIP shots. And when you've been sanding and scratch building the dust doesn't come off just by gently wiping or blowing on it. You need to wash it and potentially scrub the parts as well to get it all off.

Finished making an ab-crunch for this, popping a ball joint in the torso was easy since the width of the old polycap was pretty much the same as the ball polycap that comes in modern HGs.

I can't think about anything else to do to this kit before painting it other than cleaning up the torso. After sanding, seam welding and nodding the torso/skirt I've probably hit a good stopping point. I suppose I cam work on a custom head, but it's good for now.

I took the shoulder joints from one of those 0083 GM HGUCs and threw some pla plate in to hold it in place. It's kinda held in place by spit and string but it works pretty solidly for a first try at something like this.

I've got nothing to say on the subject of accuracy, but as straight colour schemes the third one is my favourite I guess. All of them have a huge disconnect in colour usage, though. Some foreground elements are red, some are white, occasionally they're that godawful... puce? I think it's the colour of something my grandmother drinks.

It depends, on the scale of the kit/detail, and the effect you ultimately want to achieve. Generally black on grey should be fine, but if it is a very dark base and colour and you do still wish to accentuate the edge, some people do a lightly lighter colour, silver, or slightly dry-brushing the edge a slightly lighter colour to make the gap/line look "darker". For grooves opening more than a right angle, people generally tend not to line them, dark base colour or not.

All you need is a Unicorn DM, a Banshee DM, and the Phenex Gundam. The hardest thing to get would be the Hyper Beam Javelin as that thing it super rare. Assuming you one day get the money to afford all those kits, all you'd need to do is replace the Unicorn and Banshee Psychoframe bits with the Phenex Psychoframe bits and then paint the armor white.

Doesn't look that bad to me. I always wanted to make a set piece with a Zaku II carving into a GM with a heat hawk. I figure as it cuts into the frame it would melt and drag molten metal across the gash so cutting into it with a red hot knife should do the trick. I mean this is MGS we are talking about where a suit can explode in a perfect pink sphere from minimal damage, so it's not like the lack of detailed severed inter workings would matter. If it was a unheated Gouf saber making the cut then it wouldn't make sense but a heat hawk should be a messy wound.

The sprues would often bend and that left some white outlines in the shape of the nubs (stress marks?) when I tried to sand them off

That's stress on the actual plastic, you can try scratching with your fingernail but it's not reliable. Painting those areas is best, and is the most common use for Gundam Markers.

Paint schemes seem to be easy to do. I mean /toy/'s White/Gold with Pink or Blue build seems to be going pretty strong from what I've seen.

The next group build should be something simple. Nothing like "Make a heavily battle damaged suit that's beaten up horribly but still heading to the battlefield." Something that can be done with a brand new kit and some paint.

My suggestion is take a mobile suit and paint it to reference another mech/character from a show. Like pic related or that one pic of a G-Exes that was painted up as Optimus Prime. Basically the silly aspects of the lineart threads come to life.

Why not to dioramas. They don't have to be super elaborate although they can get pretty involved, but it would be nice to see some designed bases coming out of here. Mix some /tg/ WIP skills into the general.

Gouf Custom is one of my top UC suits, and I love battle scarred detail and diorama, but this seems a little excessive.

They don't have to have battle damage, but water seems to come up a lot. Maybe it's a good way to make a diorama look good with one big step.

Hey guys, I'm testing out an acrylic spray primer (that's not specifically designed for models) on some old sprues and it's the first time I've used any aerosol type cans on a model kit. There's some small bubbling on some parts of the sprue, is this because the propellant is eating at the plastic? Or is the propellant getting under the paint and bubbling out because I sprayed it too close?
