If Build Fighters had a story like IBO, it would've ended with that final qualifying match where they fucked the Double X guy before the OP even started. Like, enjoyableness aside, IBO's plot acts as an impedance to action - or at least it has so far. Now, they could theoretically redeem the time we've spent on the non-actors of Tekkadan, but I doubt that it's going to happen.

Tournaments, even the really kiddy toyetic generic ones, generally always have some kind of subplot going on in the background. Even if the entire show is nothing but tournaments like, say, Inazmua Eleven, there's a subplot in the back that keeps motivations going.

Try was just literally one set of battles after another with nothing to hold on to. Also shitty characters.
