>Created Macross
>Help design Gundam
>Indirectly responsible for Battletech, Transformers, and pretty much anything else that copied his designs
>Speaking of Transformers, design Optimus fucking Prime

Is Kawamori the god of /m/?
>>
>>13745188
He was only partially responsible for primes design last I checked. Also he is most certainly not /m/s God, not by a long shot.
>>
>>13745207
lol.. "eveyrthing else is true but that last one is only partially true last time i checked. so pfft."
>>
>>13745214
He would need to be responsible for more things of actual importance and quality to be God of /m/
>>
>>13745188
>Created Macross
AND THIS IS A GOOD THING????
LMAO
>>
If there was an /m/ Mount Rushmore he'd probably be on it

Although if I had my way, it would consist of Nagai, Ishinomori, Ishikawa, and Takahashi
>>
>>13745253
If we had a Rush/m/ore, why limit ourselves to just four faces? Why not ten at a bare minimum?
>>
>>13745254
because then it's not mount rushmore it's just face mountain
>>
>>13745188
If /m/ was the Warhammer 40k universe Kawamori would be Malcador, Go Nagai would be Emperor, and Anno as Horus.
>>
>>13745255
>it's just face mountain

Face /m/ountain you mean
>>
>>13745255
It still has the same idea. We can't let ourselves be held back by ways of the past
>>
I actually thought about making this thread recently but dinosaur robot questions took precedence

He's probably the top mechanical designer there is in Japan. Nobody comes close to his output on large franchises but Okawara, who doesn't do story concepts like Kawamori does.
>>
>>13745188
by your logic testsujin 28's director/creator should be the god of /m/ because he started the genre and influenced everything to come after it by default
>>
>>13745273
>He's probably the top mechanical designer there is in Japan. Nobody comes close to his output on large franchises but Okawara, who doesn't do story concepts like Kawamori does.

I'd argue that Izubuchi's field of work easily surpasses Kawamori in scope, as both a mechanical designer and director. Unlike Kawamori though, he doesn't have a franchise stuck to his name.
>>
>>13745273
>dinosaur robot questions
what
>>
>>13745294
Izubuchi is a good designer, but he doesn't come close to Kawamori in scope. Izubuchi only does anime and the only thing that was all him was RahXephon and he was part of the Patlabor production committee. Just look at the stuff in the OP, it's not gonna be any impressive if I just restate it.

He has numerous franchiseS also, all with mostly unique mechanical design

Kawamori was 19 when Prime was designed. Any contribution was likely to not be of much significance.

Kawamori has designed for games like Armored Core, Lego, that robot dog by Sony, and he even designed that jet for the new Thunderbirds.
>>

He should at least a Hero to /m/.

Don't forget his work on Escaflowne.

>>Help design Gundam

This is something of a misleading statement.
Worded like this, it suggests he was with Gundam from the ground level - by the time he got to doing any designs for it, it was VERY well established, and he mainly just made a couple of designs for a sidestory.

It's a little like saying Tim Sale helped design Batman. He drew for a couple of successful runs, but you can't really say he had enough of a formative hand in it for that kind of credit.

I did gain a new amount of respect for him after reading that article. I especially felt bad for him after reading this part

>“I really wish I could have Macross released in its entirety across the world though. If I had the chance to officially stream Macross Delta and make it available to fans everywhere, like Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans, I’d be very happy to see that happen.”

>My general impression here was that Kawamori and those at Studio Nue being the creative copyright holders of Macross, are caught in among all this. The frustration was obvious, as he clearly just wants to see his work released after all these years.

>Kawamori is undeterred though, as he’s already working on the next entry in the Macross series. Called Macross Delta it looks to take the franchise in an interesting new direction, while also staying true to what made the previous series’ so engaging

Poor guy just wants everyone to enjoy his works.

Makes one hate Harmony Gold even more for crushing this man's dreams.
>>
>>13746271
Come on. Harmony Gold is shit, but Kawamori has fulfilled his dreams. He has designed and created and contributed to numerous iconic series with worldwide acclaim. His works ARE available for everyone, not necessarily legally, but I bet Macross Delta is on some streaming site right now

This is such a ridiculous thing to deny. Are you really so butthurt over Robotech that you can't even admit that people watched it and were aware of what it was?
>>
>>13746746
It's more Robofags deluding themselves thinking it was some kind of massive pop culture success. Speed Racer, Sailor Moon, Voltron, and Dragonball Z are more popular and more well known than Robotech. It didn't leave that much of an impression on the western anime fanbase.

>He seriously thinks Robotech led to the popularization of anime
You might have a case with Akira but really the popularization of anime was due to a lot of factors. Some of which are actually were still relevant past their time like Speed Racer or DBZ. Robotech is much less well known then any of those. Hell I think Sailor Moon is more popular.
>>
>>13746759
All those have had more pop culture references than Robotech. Hell, when people bring up Robotech nostalgia they always mention the Macross Saga, never the other two sagas. And if Robotech was so successful then why has it never received an actual successful sequel? All attempts at continuing the series ended with failures or cancelled projects.
