Newtypes started off as being a very specific interpretation and set of powers, but then Zeta fucked that up and turned them into Wizards. This situation stabilized into lower powerlevels for a while, but CCA established that Newtypes + Psychoframe can do literally anything, and the setting is under no obligation to explain how AND the most impressive feats of Newtype power are allowed to be 'one time miracles' that can never happen again even if you try.

This means that any writer can have Newtypes do pretty much anything the plot demands, and anything that has been said about what Newtypes can and cannot do previously is a suggestion you can freely ignore. Any time someone new sits down to write a scene involving newtypes, they can reinvent their powers at will because they already have no consistency anyway or internal logic anyway.

Anyone who says that there is a specific list of things that Newtypes can do is either reciting their headcanon or working off of a definition of Newtypes that has since been retconned by more recent works.

When was it stabilised at low powerlevel after Zeta and before CCA?
Zeta had ghosts, mind rape and probably super seduction powers, which all at least vaguely connect with "super perception" or "understanding each other". ZZ had raw emotion case an Earthquake

And before anyone says it, there is no mention at all of the Biosensor in Zeta. That's from a wholly different Tomino show (Dunbine?) and was added into the gunpla manual for Zeta after the show's run was already complete. Its presence in the Zeta is a retcon, originally Kamille was just ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL of the Zeta with his mind.

It's not that he couldn't decide, but that the director wanted it to be literal time travel since he thought that newtypes doing that should be fine, while Fukui wanted it to just be visions. They compromised by making it, and I'm quoting here, the memories of the universe that they were seeing.

there is a range of newtype powers. some basci ones and some advanceds ones unique to powerful newtypes.
base powers would be: telepathy, intuition with mobile suits, predicting attacks, psycommu weapons, advanced spatial awareness, paranormal communication
advanced powers would be: telekinesis like the axis shock events, telepathic suggestion like scirocco, harnessing paranormal spirits/energy, trancending psychical form, control over i fields to get big sabers/ block beam weaponry, time travel. also psychoframe>biosensor>psycommu in regard to mobile suit systems to assist newtypes and natural newtypes beat out cyber newtypes.

Newtype powers are caused by psychic projections emanating from Ideon's remains in the Jupiter's sphere. Humans affected by these projections gain a tiny bit of Ide's powers, including

Choose one. In a nutshell, brainwaves can move through Minovsky particles. In environments where they don't disperse quickly and last long term, people live with them all around them. People who grow up in this environment during their formulate years learn this. Not like savanthood but its the same as never learning to hear or see properly if you lack those organs growing up then have synthetics added to you as an adult: Your neurology to process the signals into meaningful information and feed it into your experience of reality to draw your conclusions from just isn't there.

To that end, I imagine a cyber newtype is someone who's had those neurological circuits added. Or should I say, cultivated. Teaching the brain to take the shapes needed to process those signals, through the use of drugs and all kinds of specialist alterations -- or maybe even cybernetic augmentation in the form of chemically grown circuits that trick the brain into being that willing to learn again and then going through a rapid teaching period that in turn damages other parts of the brain too mature to cope with the stress.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if an interesting side-effect of the cybernewtype process was learning an instrument or picking up some utterly obscure skill in adulthood that in childhood would take years to learn? In turn, if that act became a coping mechanism for the stress. A way of centering themselves in moments of psychological pain akin to introspective mania, anxiety or even the beginnings of schizophrenia?

I love Furuhashi's line about how he didn't think Newtypes moving through time was outrageous, because they are beings who can even move stars. I don't mean that sarcastically or anything, I genuinely thought his perspective was pretty novel.

Ultimately Newtypes are a symbol for the next generation, by which I mean the descendants that will carry our species into the future. A lot of Gundam is themed around how the current generation doesn't trust their children, but ultimately it's their children that will build the future. The remarkable powers that Newtypes possess are reflective of the potential inherent in the next generation.

Except that everyone in UC eventually says "this is bananas, lets all agree to just stop all newtype research and never bring it up again" and all the Newtypes leave and no one ever develops into a Newtype ever again for reasons no one can explain.
