Probably not, but her father's been a longtime Stasi supporter and has been trying to groom Beatrix into the role she'd assume. He was influential enough to put guards on her ass most of the time.

Having a boyfriend who was not under her father's control allowed her to retain some sanity. Once he was gone, the only thing she could do is try and change the system from within, or failing that, manipulate the system in order to try and save the greater majority of Germany. Remember, she's one of the few females who didn't get raped or reeducated under the Stasi, and was even ruthless enough to get command over her own team, which is nothing short of impressive given how ruthless the Stasi are portrayed.

We aren't really sure if Beatrix's dad was a stasi supporter or not (he probably was). All we know for sure is that he did not have a good relationship with Beatrix. Those old spoilers had alooot wrong, and you'd think someone as influential as Abel would show up in SM if he was still alive. Hell, as influential as the "Red Aristocrats" were, you'd think that someone other than Beato would show up. I think the Brehmes got purged, same as the Bernhards. Remember, chapter 5 has Jurg trying to rope Abel in on his TSF scheme since the guy has so much power over the DDR's finances and government. This connection could prove to be the tool an unscrupulous rival (someone like Erich Schmidt) could use to have them "dissapeared" when Iris rats Jurg out.

Objectively, I feel Beatrix did have some legitimately noble intentions, but did not have the means to really carry it all out, resorting to using what she had at her disposal.

Indeed, the similarities to Yuuko are there, where she was focusing on the big picture, beyond the immediate conflict. However, Beatrix didn't have a time-looping assistant, or was a time-looper herself, and wasn't as brilliant as Yuuko, so she couldn't force her own way without having to play by the rules of the Stasi (unlike Yuuko, who was able to bully the UN around enough to get her plan funded and completed in at least one loop).

Basically, being Beatrix is suffering, moreso than Irisdina or Katia or Theo (only Lise would be suffering more). She has to climb the Stasi ladder based on what she does, due to not being super special. She has no one to really support her; her boyfriend and the one man she ever confided in is dead, and while friendly with her squad, she still seemed to have a certain distance, as if she couldn't trust them with her own plans out of concern of having it reported to Axemann, and lose whatever immunity she's had to Axemann's indoctrination as a result.

I admit that the recent portrayal of Beatrix doesn't earn the sympathy of many non-rune readers.

I do admit that it also feels like we're only supposed to be seeing things from Theo's PoV. He's been rather biased about things in the novels, although the VN makes him much less of an asshole with alternative choices to certain situations.

But taking it as a whole (BiS), she's just as flawed and relatively human as the others we're supposed to be rooting for in Theo/Iris/Katia.

Right down to where Yuuko was really only using Takeru to comfort herself without ever really opening up, but in SM's case, Beatrix using Theo to comfort herself without really ever opening up.

I think it's more to sate his perversity. Axmann loves soiling what he sees as innocent or pure. What is more innocent or pure looking than a young virgin girl (he was getting a massive boner when he saw Katia)? He could've had Theo inducted, but the boy just become a means to an ends for Lise. He already had all the evidence, he didn't need Lise to confess, but he still decided to break her, and he used Theo to break her. Once he had Lise entrapped, he let Theo go. Lise even speculated that it was never about her parents attempting to emigrate, once Axmann saw her it was all over.
