My biggest Vidya boner was using the Aestevalis in SRW J/W and just tear ass. I woud give each gir a different frame to compiment their stat difference ( Izumi bonus in ranged attack so I gave her the arty frame, etc.)

You know why the Aestivalis is so small? Because it doesn't use any fuel or batteries. Its energy is beamed from the Nadesico. This makes the Aestivalis nothing more than a glorified, piloted drone. They're utterly worthless as independent units.

This is a huge handicap that makes impossible to field large numbers of units and/or at a distance from the mothership. Even in SEED Destiny, the beam transfer wasn't a problem for the Earth Alliance when they stole the ZAFT Gundams.

Yes it does. It has an internal battery to use in case of a back up. This came up a bunch of times on the show.

There was even an instance where they swapped out batteries to use on akitos
