Garrod Ran is a real man's protagonist.

There is very little to his character other than "stoic, blunt child soldier." He's just the guy who drives the main Gundam.

Orga and Kudelia are more IBO's main characters than Mikazuki.

He's not as fun as Garrod or has as much to his character as Loran but he's okay. It looks like the 2nd half of the show will be devoted to developing him more so hopefully he comes out as a well rounded likable character. ATM I find him to be more like a drone, just devoid of any personality, defined solely by eating and being Orga's guard dog.

He's as thin as paper as a character. He has no personality and no motivation. I'd would say that his development is one-dimensional, but he hasn't developed at all (I'm like 13 episodes in). He has only one job, that's it. The very definition of a jobber.

Some could argue that his character has no emotion as a purposeful choice, but I think that's just lazy writing. So far there been no explanation as to why he is like that. Unless we are to assume that he's just autistic.

As a Gundam protagonist, he ranks pretty low. He's pretty much a supporting character in his own show. Practically all other franchise protagonists are better written even though they're mostly shit, too.

I have not watched many Gundams since I started this thanksgiving but out of what I watched here is what I think.

They are close but I prefer Kamille over Amuro mainly because I just generally liked Zeta gundam more, and it made Kamille more interesting to me.

Not necessarily.

First off, while the Gundam is good, he doesn't have the same ace cards he did with the GX.

Second, fact is, we see him get his shit whipped around a fair number of times by the Frost Bros, to say nothing for his first time against Carris, or the fight against the Colrel.
The kid gets bailed out by Witz and Roybea a number of times over the series, and the only reason he isn't straight-up murdered during his first fight against the Bertigo is because Carris uses him as a hostage to get Tifa. Were she not in play, the kid would be hamburger at that point.

Garrod is likely to do alright for himself, but the fact is, no villain in the MSG setting has a reason to pull a punch and keep him alive. While I like Kai, Ryu, and Hayato, their suits aren't on the same level as Leopard and Airmaster, so I don't know how much I'd count on them to play the cavalry charging to Garrod's aid. Especially in the first half.

I can see the kid doing well, but I also wouldn't say he'd be steamrolling the enemy by any means.

Orga is the main character though

Garrod wouldn't do any better than Amuro, but I think it's possible that he could at least make it through MSG. While he did get his ass saved quite a bit, Garrod also fought against much more difficult opponents much earlier as well. By the time Amuro was fighting with funnels he was already an experienced pilot.

Plus, Amuro wasn't a terribly good pilot in the beginning either. Garrod might have been able to coast on the strength of his machine until he got better, just like Amuro did.

Also that whole thing with running away and meeting Ramba Ral would be exactly the same, I bet.
