That's because the original Gundam is THAT GOOD.

When compared on its own merits, it stands as a fascinating character study juxtaposed with real life parallels.

It manages to foster both an intellectual and artistic spirit having the audience question and deduce the effects of contemporary colonialism, proxy warfare, the proliferation of WMDs, foreign policy...while artistically setting the bar when it comes to mise-en-scene, competent and logical characters (that is to say characters that act within reason according to their modes of thinking.), symbolism, while weaving exposition and narrative carefully to present a story that is dark and serious without ever appearing arrogant.

It is dark by being blunt rather than edgy.

But who am I to disagree with such a bold statement, especially one without justification?
>>
>>13667632
In every time, in every place, the deeds of men remain the same.

It matters not what other think, we have no control over that.

Other than the OP I can't really think of any good music in IBO, actually scratch that the OP isn't that good except for the Engrish "waiting for erection". That pretty much describes IBO up to this point, waiting for some excitement after the mandatory mix of exposition, not so subtly handling that they're orphans and child soldiers, and Kudelia's time wasting. Nope nothing, a poorly choreographed fight that spans one half an episode to another followed by 2-3 episodes of exposition and setting up the next fight. It just leaves me waiting for "erection"
>>
>>13668650
You sound like you belong there.

You fucking pieces of shit and your fucking IBO are the cancer that is slowly eating away at the culture.

I can picture you in my mind's eye. You, doughy and flabby and unkempt, forcing heaping handfuls of Cheetos into your mouth, dusty orange particulate falling onto your greasy neckbeard. I can fucking see you, and I can even smell the stench of stale piss emanating from your bottles.

Fuck you, you fucking piece of shit. Do something with your life. Stop praying at the altar of mediocrity. Remove Reddit from your bookmarks. Fuck, just unplug from the internet. Do something, anything besides continuing down this fucking road.

Learn a trade. Try to do something useful. Learn to shoot long guns and cut wood with a table saw. For once go to sleep physically exhausted. For Christ's sake, do something while you're breathing other than vicariously living through poorly written characters on mundane "adventures" which are copies of copies of copies of copies of dime-store serial stories. Grow the fuck up.

Fuck a woman. Have a child. Anything. Please. Anything but this. Fucking stop, you fucking human parasite.

It's kind of "eh." The designs themselves are either very bland or a gigantic fucking eyesore, with no in-between. That's a very important aspect of the show in a Gundam series, or any mecha anime.

Doesn't help that the characters aren't very engaging. Manly and badass, sure, but they're not interesting.

It's actually quite odd to compare IBO and 00. 00 is the epitome of beam spam and overpowered mecha in a gundam series while IBO is a reversal to low tech.

Overall, I think 00 is more entertaining while IBO has better characters but IBO hasn't finished yet.
>>
>>13668880
Quick question, what do you consider good animation?

Because there's a lot of different ways of thinking about it and nobody has put together a codified line of criticism for animation.

>>13668809
VVV had some interesting ideas and looking at it objectively I have to say that it hits a lot of my checkboxes. However, I found that I had to force myself to keep watching. All of the ideas seem to have fell flat and I couldn't help but feel that VVV wasn't worth watching. Maybe it can strike a cord with some people but for me it failed to come together like poorly made custard.
>>
>>13667443
While it definitely wasn't up to the standards season 1 set, I thought 00 S2 was decent except for them using Setsuna becoming essentially a newtype.
While Cherudim wasn't as good as Dynames and Exia was far better than 00 Gundam, Arios and Seravee were pretty good.

They love taking inbetweens and acting as if they were full frames of animation.
They also take images of characters in the far background and complain that they aren't drawn in the same level of detail as a close-up.
And then they yell QUALITY! like mongoloids.

Welcome to anime.

If you want to see characters that move more than their lipflaps, full series really aren't for you, because most anime on a television budget are just cleverly disguised slide-shows with a few seconds of actual animation thrown in.

I made this one. It's a bit janky without the characters talking and the cockpit cut-ins though, on top of the other half of the fight with the Barbatos being cut. Kinda kills the pacing of the scene.

There is just not shit for motion in this show, occasionally you get more than a couple frames devoted to something reeling or being crushed from being hit by a mace or a hammer or whatever.

>IBO best mech in years
When i watch TV shows I like things to happen. Hardly anything has progressed in IBO over the course of the show.
>>
Frankly, IBO is disappointing, in terms of action and moving the plot along.

The drama side has some potential, what with it kind of reminding me of Lord of the Flies, but it really hasn't gone anywhere. Oh sure, it's also the first animated Gundam series to outright have a legitimate harem and all the discussion that particular element brought about, but that's relatively minor (Chibodee's harem doesn't count as none of them have shown legitimate affection beyond that of a close-knit cheer squad).

Don't get me wrong; it does have some nice MS designs and an interesting low-tech future-setting premise (compared to even the original MSG series), but it the plot moves so goddamn slow. It'd take 50 episodes to really tell the story they're trying to tell at this rate.

Why are there so few good fights?

Episode 5 is the only really enjoyable fight I've seen. The animation was even pretty good. But this recent series of episodes has been pretty disappointing. Which is made worse by the long stretch of character development episodes leading up to a new confrontation.

It was cool seeing Mika murk a bunch of pirate debris kids but him basically chasing around the big green gundam and there hardly being a fight was pretty disappointing. And the animation was still mediocre at best with more than a couple barely animated shots.

I'm still enjoying the show but they better hire some new animators and work on some of those setpieces because this is getting annoying.

I can't say its the best Gundam in 20 years since that would be saying its better than Turn A which just isn't the case. In terms of writing its more like the best gundam show since 00, though you could definitely make a case for either one. Lots better than the absolute garbage the last few shows have been. Its taking a lot of risks with its character development and its plot structure that are appreciated and isn't just retreading old ground for the series. It doesn't hurt at all that the action and mech design is top notch either. It handles the themes of slavery and child labor decently and presents it in a way that to me seems like it is suitable and interesting for both an older and younger audience, which is pretty impressive and is definitely an area where it one ups 00.

the second season of 00 was better than the first, despite what /m/ likes to say. Marina's character really pushed the show in an interesting direction and the rivalry with Ribbons was really interesting.
