This was something I wanted to bring up with reveal of the teaser posters for the next Spring movie. I noticed NEW New Ichigo's helmet has that pointy "nose" 3 and 4 have. That makes me wonder if they are gonna try to have the Spring movies follow a sort of ongoing story surrounding Shocker since the 50th anniversary is coming in due time. Sprt of do a Marvel thing where the movies build up the climatic 50th anniversary Spring crossover where we can get a final encounter with the evil alien spirit parasite thing that is Great Leader in a form that I would assume is similar to Gaia. Seems like a stretch, but as it stands the spring movies are the only way Toei has established right now to do anything related to the original show. With such limited time, it feels more feasible they'd try it now. It would be nice at least to see the Great Leader in a fight at normal after all these recent encounters where he is a giant.

That aside, I wonder how 1 (and I assume 2) will get upgraded. I would like to think that Toei will make Great Leader realize "Hey, if we can always come up with a way to manipulate time and gathered all this information and new technology, why don't we go back FAR enough to redo our intial experimentation on 1 and 2 and succeed this time!?" Then during the movie 1 and 2 are back with upgraded duds. Then somethings happens where they reawaken them to justice, which essentially reboots them while not really do8ng anything in the grand scheme of things. It's still Hayato and Ichimonji, just their suits changed and ambiguous power level is probably even higher. I dunno, maybe the Ishinormori Eyecon will be what awakens them because Ghost needs to be involved somehow. Though I doubt they will make Great Leader that smart.

Whatever happens I can't wait to see what they look like. If it is anything like 3 I will be satisfied.

Honestly, Faiz is one of the best portrayals I've ever seen in fiction of what it's like to have an emotionally abusive person in your life.

I kinda liked Kusaka. When I say I liked him what I really mean is that I hated him, which is why I liked him. Most secondary riders have their stand-offish intro arc with the main rider and it's forgettable, but Kusaka and the way he tried to ruin everyone is something I'll never be able to forget.

I understand that, but I already stated why that impacts my enjoyment of the series as a whole. Kusaka gets away with being a shitty human being, and as a result of his meddling it holds up a lot of other plot points and prevents characters from developing in the show because everything gets hung up on miscommunication that he purposely engineers.


Conflict is good if it provides an avenue for that development to happen. The conflict that Kusaka drives in Faiz is the opposite, I feel it makes the series stagnate.

I'd really prefer if we just got something like a super powerful villain appearing and beating Rider 1 and 2, then going on to face other Riders, who also can't take them on. It could be a new form of the great leader or some new overpowered Rider, maybe both.

If people want to hate Faiz because of Kusaka I think that's fine. Characters like that who literally are impossible to like aren't for everyone. I enjoyed Kusaka and what he meant to the show. Faiz didn't really have interesting villains. The Lucky Clover for the most part were incredibly boring, when Kusaka came in he felt like the biggest threat and Takumi suffered a lot trying to overcome him.

Well okay, it has been awhile since I've watched it. I was 13 and thought the melodrama was pretty great because I didn't really have much to compare it too. I wouldn't notice if the series stagnated at any point, but I will say the conflict Kusaka brings against Takumi and Mari felt needed to drive home the alienation theme in Faiz, so I enjoyed a lot for that. Whether one likes the it or not, I think Bandai and Toei are finally gonna make a modernization of the Double Riders they are going to stick with. Entertainment today is deep in the phase of rebooting/modernizing big name IPs to sell to the next generation. Marvel is doing it, Star Wars is doing it, Disney cartoons did it, Disney movies are doing it, DC is doing it, Nintendo has done a couple of times, Sonic has done it, TMNT is doing it, Sailor Moon did it, Godzilla is doing it. Even Sentai is indirectly doing via Power Rangers getting an MMPR reboot. Bunch of others too on both sides of the globe.

I can imagine Toei and Bandai execs are sweating their balls off because they have yet to do a modernization of the two faces of their biggest franchise that sticks. With the 45th anniversary happening in this type of environment I think they are gonna try to stick the landing.

Granted, I'm gonna try having an open mind about it. Despite this global trend being mostly driven by marketing, not all reboots/modernizations have sucked. In terms of super heroes, the Iron Man armors, ASM2 Spidey, and Black Panther are pretty good. Toku more specifically, I like the look of Kikaider, the Kyodain siblings, Inazuman, and Rider 3. And if this is happening in a spring movie, then we won't have to worry about it affecting Hongo or Ichimonji as characters or the original show. Their future appearances will now just be in these new suits.

The more I think about it, the more I am actually hoping the new duds look great and this endeavor succeeds.

I think mostly because while I don't hate current Kamen Riders, I would like to somehow god back to watching something more classic with a Rider or Riders who just transform once and jump into the fray. The Spring movies would be a great place to do that. The between season crossovers movies became more focused and added content to the involved shows. The net movies were traded in to focus on specials and more Gaidens whoch add even more content and world building. The summer movies also were more content for their respective shows instead of (most of the time) unecessary AU stuff.

The spring movies are the only weird kinks now. There's not much direction to them and they only exist because "hey, crossovers". With SHTGP and Kamen Rider 4 Specials, Shirakura seems interesting in actually building an ongoing story. His recent tweets tell me he is still enthused about his ideas and that this might be a continuation. I know he gets flack for the Spring movies, but I think he has the right idea at least. Focus more on the original Double Riders and Shocker and use the crossover Riders more smartly. Make it like the final episodes of Drive with Ghost or the Chaser Gaiden with Accel, with 1 and 2 being Drive and basically every other Rider with an active role being in Ghost/Accel's place. Use the Spring movies to build a little story that leads into the 50th anniversary.

With that, I hope they cut Sentai's appearance entirely. They're just not used well at this point. Especially in SHTGP3 where they screwed up an otherwise okay Rider movie.

Terui's bike, while nice, isn't a proper Rider Machine. It's just a normal motorcycle. So it doesn't have the crazy specifications and stats that Rider Machines have. Like if he tried to race other Riders with that thing, he'd lose every single time.

I can firther predict that Hongo and Ichimonji die (again) and go on theoughout the movie as spirits. Some special Eyecon like Ishinomori's or their is what probably not only brings them nack to life, but brings them back stronger in new suits. I thought the whole thing was mostly a dull rehash of New Hope which we already got a rehash of in the prequels. The whole thing was way more modern hollywood than I expect most people were going for but what do you expect from a hack like JJ Abrams. Kylo killing Han, his father, was a pretty boring twist. If they are anything like 3 and 4, I hope the spring movie comes and goes soon so we can jump into new 1 (and 2) SHF. I took us until October to get 3 and we haven't even seen a release for 4 yet. From the battle and Goro's previous fight scenes, he seemed like more of a close-quarters fighter, whereas Zolda/Kitaoka excelled in long-range attacks. It's why Goro really wasn't able to utilize his Final Vent in that battle.
