No free mission mode and they wanted an "earth" only setting because of the open world gameplay. Having an open space with no towns to visit wouldn't be very interesting.

Tried playing this, was fun until the game glitched and now won't let me switch any of my units.

The console market has always done alot better in Japan. Most Japanese folks simply don't have computers... they get buy with phones for communication via texting and whatnot (and not quite like the smart phones seen in the US).

Have you ever seen the Japanese alphabets? They got three different fucking alphabets! Imagine trying to fit that on a god damned keyboard. You don't. Because of that, the concept of the home computer is a rare thing for a Japanese video game consumer. That's why consoles are so fucking huge over there.

You create a character along with their backstory. Where they were born, what their affiliation is for example NUNS or SMS, and then it plays like you typical visual novel dating sim with some missions thrown in every now and then.

Yes.

It gets funnier when you use your character in campaign mode and set the girl whose route you went for as partner/operator.
They occasionally blush and say things to you when the mission starts.

If you finish all 4 course options(you get to choose at the beginning of the character creation), you unlock a "course" where there are no Vajra attacks(Its also the only way to date Sheryl since she doesn't appear in the dating list for the other 4).

Creating an SMS pilot(You get to choose, on the second year, I think, Ozma's waifu will ask you) and a NUNS pilot unlocks the civilian option for your other characters.
The only difference between a NUNS pilot and a SMS pilot is the machine they fly in the occasional mission, and the uniform in their portrait. Civilians get a normal spacesuit and can still be used in campaign mode as a pilot.

They just use a standard QWERTY keyboard, but I think Japanese keyboards have 109 keys because there's a few keys to auto switch kana/kanji. I actually have a Japanese keyboard and it's weird. The open quotes key is Shift+2, and the plus key is over where the bracket keys should be located. You just get used to it though really.

Yeah I guess, but seeing that it seems that you won't be able to max heart best girl(s) with those stats.

Makes it even more pointless when you realize that pilot stats mean jack dick in-game. I tried it out and it literally plays the same. It's all about how well upgraded your machine is not who's piloting it, Char is rolling in his grave.

On a side note, I like how they modeled both male and female main characters in ex gears. Them thighs. Pity you can't play with them in campaign or versus. I mean they already gave you bosses and fucking Macross units, so the balance is outta the window anyway.

Just click on the girl and choose a dating spot. If you click the correct dating spot there's a voice over and you get a big heart in the status report. Get few of those in a row and you'll get a special CG depending on the character and they'll have special quotes when coupled with your MC in the campaign.

Stats actually affect your flying, actually.
The melee stat determine how long your melee combo will be, this is obvious in that melee-only Frontier mission where a character with low melee stat has trouble killing shit because he/she can only hit the enemy once at a time.

The shooting stat seem to affect your missile lockon speed, I noticed that using Max significantly increased the lockon speed.

Not sure about the rest.

Is there a workaround for the game crashing on the emulator after the 3rd mission of Macross Plus?
