It depends, if it's something really short I'll just run it through webm for retards.
Sometimes I'll play with the command line, but because of the next bit, I don't like it as much.
It's really, really good for cutting up by frames.
I prefer xmedia recode though. Most of the time, I'll cut it in Retards, then encode it as lossless (or as close to lossless as a reencoded file can be) then run it again in xmedia. Takes a little while, but until seeking is easier in xmedia I'll keep doing it how I do.

WFR also doesn't respond well to HEVC for me. Freezes a lot, but that could just be my rig, although I kinda doubt it.

We still haven't got to Soushi's framing monologue. That means that shit hasn't hit it's nadir yet. At this point I'm wondering if the monologue is actually going to be in the last episode as a cliffhanger for another season or movie. Next episode should be downtime and setup for the final battle, so I don't think it'll be there. The only other option I can see is if it turn's out that Soushi's monologue is from Canon's bad future and it was how she got all the coordinates and Einherjar data.

Honestly in some ways it feels like he's recounting Exodus to some third party, aside from the audience. The first episode bit about being dead makes it sound more like a recording, but even then. "soon you will learn" tends to come up at pretty key moments, like he's trying to keep someone's attention, even though he's pretty generous with the line.

Well, Soushi appears to have fully unleashed his Esperanto powers, which are essentially some Pseudo-SDP, but otherwise those two don't seem to have personal ones like Gen 3, Seri, Rina. Their mechs are just pumping up the Festum core to obscene levels.

It's really cool in Ep. 9 towards the beginning (I think) where Emery and the Esperantos unleash a storm of worm spheres on a Delphine-type. That's some permutation of SDP.

Well going by how her powers work she would be in the Dreizehn, so that limits things a bit.

I'm just assuming it might get used for a proper goodbye to Kazuki or, ideally, Youko. Maybe while delivering some kind of pertinent information to justify the trip. No matter what she'll know she has to leave so we'll get some kind of sad goodbye.

And before anyone spouts off about Canonfags, even if it's the most minor scene like with Kenji before Kouyo appeared, something is going to happen. The lack of an Einherjar conversion makes me think Canon is the probably the pilot. If they were planing on putting someone in it it would stand to reason that they would upgrade it before the final battle. They seem to have time to upgrade Sieben and apparently the Einherjar conversion benefits Festum judging by Koyo getting one. It's using Canon's signature lance in the ED too. Misao doesn't really strike me as a heavy melee person and it would make more sense to put him in Neun if Rina is in the Zero Fafner considering it's already upgraded.

I don’t think anyone has pointed this out yet about Raison, but it mostly use’s Funf’s frame with extra armor added. The bulky leg armor and red plates on the arm just go directly over regular Funf’s body along with the Aegis mantle thing over its shoulders. The only changes made directly to Funf’s body are to change the tail stabilizer to one that more closely resembles the Salvator ones, adding the Nicht style visor over Funf’s central sensor (along with a command antenna thing added to the back of the head), and an entirely new cockpit. Anyone have a good pic of Funf to compare?

I’m also kind of curious if the beam spam last episode was actually from Raison. It opened the portal it used to feed Crawler to Vagrant before using it, so I was thinking it might have actually been opening a portal so that Vagrant could shoot all the lasers directly from space. They didn’t show it explicitly though, so we’re probably supposed to assume that Raison was indeed the direct source.

The character struggles in Exodus are mainly built off the stuff you get from the previous material because there are so many characters that get focus now.

Everyone returning from the previous material are getting the conclusions of their story arcs here. You can't really separate them

I mean Kenji's full character arc is going from a stupid kid to a full fledged adult. With DA, HAE and Exodus each showing different periods of his growths.

The new characters don't have another series and movie to help build their characters and have to fight with old ones finishing their arcs.

CHARACTER ARCS ALA FAFNER

Which first Gen has the best arc?

Kazuki
He began as an innocent kid with a guilt complex over an incident he had vague memories of. He becomes an ace pilot who is forced to deal with feelings of uselessness and unease about his life outside a Fafner and a strong sense of responsibility towards putting his life to some greater purpose due to the compassion he feels as the enemy has become more human to him.

Soushi
An awkward young man with difficulty understanding others and a large sense of responsibility for protecting the one piece of paradise left on the planet. Has now opened up to to the point where he can relate and understand not only others but even his enemy.

Maya
A typical teenage girl at the start of the series longing for some connection to the Father who went missing years early. She's become an ace pilot, found a surrogate father figure to fill the void left by her real father, while also discovering that at her core she is far more like her father than she ever thought she would be.

Kenji
A typical idiot high school student. He's grown from an over emotional kid to a full fledged adult, able to maintain order on the battlefield, provide emotional and technical support to various people on the island and even get married.

Sakura
A tomboy with a fiery personality reeling from the loss of her father. Though still a bit tomboyish she softened and been able to relinquish the resentment and feelings of inadequacy she once had to help the new generation.

Canon
An orphan adopted into the military state having cut off all her own emotions and will to survive. She matured into a fine young woman very in touch with her own feelings and yet still able to do what is necessary of her to protect those she loves of her own will.

Canon had a beautiful transformation from an emotional void to an emotionally healthy young woman. Kenji grew up to be a responsible adult on whom others can depend. Maya didn't really grow in the first season because she was always a boss, but in this cour she's turned into a stone-cold killer. Soushi learned to talk to Kazuki, though not to anyone else. As a big fan of Canon, I might have to give the edge to Maya here. Though we've also known her longer and just had last week's episode.

But it really struck me how Maya now and Maya at the beginning of DA are almost completely unrecognizable compared to eachother. But it feels natural because we actually got to see her change and develop as time went on, and as the situation required, just like we got to see all these characters grow up.
