Usually, as shit happens in the 2nd half of the series, the secondary riders are delegated the comic-relief role and that kinda kills the credibility of the character. (i.e. in Kabuto, OOOs, Wizard)

But Chase flows into that role very organically, he and his unintentional robot jokes.

There is no reason to defend TV-N other than just to bait people, and it's really nonsense that nowadays people are starting to become more "okay" with them, it just shows a lowering of standards.

Wataru is a pretty boring (but cute!) protagonist and the show starts off very slowly but Kivas awesome special attacks and forms make up for it
we also get a pretty good supporting cast with Otoya and Jiro and IXA is easily one of my favorite secondaries in Rider
many people complain about the unnecessary romance subplots and while they are pretty lame they aren't as important or long as some people make it out to be
also the Fangire have some pretty sweet designs

The first 26 or so episodes are alright. When Maya is introduced in the 1986 side everything starts being a mess to watch, though it's better than the 2008 side.

The 2008 side is good up until Mio arrives, at which point Kengo turns in to an absolute and utterly unlikable dick for 15 something episodes, Nago gets a personality change(Though I liked his comedic side more than his serious buttons side personally), you could not care at all about Taiga for pretty much his entire existence, and you have to deal with Tatsulot's screeching hellvoice for the rest of the show.

Jirou is the only one at all of his buddies that get any development, and it's barely anything at all with Wataru, Shizuka is never explained, Wataru stops being afraid of the world like one episode into it after having been a recluse for supposedly years, Bashaa Fever is never used in the show at all, and thanks to the base suits being so heavy we pretty much never see anything outside of Emperor Form and the sword as an insta-kill when Wataru fights.

Thankfully, Nago is around for a bunch of fights, and seeing Ixa fight is an absolute joy all the time. The jokes they made were also great, Otoya was excellent in his role.
