I think a finale movie is inevitable at this point. With 5 episodes left, they will wrap the conflict between human and festum on earth. At the end, all humans and festum will unite and prepare for the arrival of Polaris. Cut to the movie andit will be shown that Polaris is the biggest threat and want to assimilate Earth.

There's just so many new plot threads starting at once while not completely resolving all the known ones. As well as interesting interactions that we don't get to see because of it. So Idun has been coming up a lot thanks to his spiritual successor Greg-core-y, it made me wonder about something that seems a little debatable.

Being a Master-type, he was just using the appearance of Alvis2's core back in DA, right? I've seen people act like he literally was the core, but going by Mjolnir they should be separate entities. Idun even has the older appearance to set him apart.

All we know is the island was completely overrun by Festum, no human in sight. That'd make the core completely defenseless and open to assimilation, so Idun could just lie in wait until someone else arrived as we saw. Unless I'm forgetting something, I'd assume the actual core was long gone to the hivemind.

Ay's last scene was of her being shot down by Jonathan, that was on Ep 21. On episode 22 we were told that only one fafner from the Perseus company (Narein's one) returned. She's MIA, but it's not really a stretch to believe that she's dead.

Ai is alive and probably she is the key to stop Jonathan.

Rewatching the last few minutes of yesterday's episode, god damn the sound direction is amazing. They have you thinking it's the standard few seconds of the intro to the ED then that guitar kicks in.

Have to say I think this was the best single episode of an anime I've seen all year.

I just finished rewatching the first episode of the first cour. In light of what Hester said on episode 22 everything fucking changes.

Narain wondering about why the Festum are suddenly showing interest in a base that is just for supplies and help relief that they have ignored since forever, changes from "the Festum learned about how human lives works" to "Hester said something to Vagrant that made Roadrunner attack that base."

Master-type = a mind that got assimilated that for whatever reason created a fanboy Festum who likes to cosplay as them.
It's obvious that a Master-type need not be based on a human mind because the thing that was the template for Idun was a Core-type, which is a type of Festum.

Slave-type = a mind that got assimilated, but through a stroke of luck/power of friendship, manages to pull themselves back into existence, but gets a slew of Festum power when they do becoming something much more powerful than they were before.
I'd assume a Slave-type doesn't have to be human, but that's just an assumption.

She was supposed to be a perfect pilot, given her father's attempt to take her with him to pilot a Salvator, and his whole anger with the island for deliberately playing down her true piloting potential. Likely because he himself had probably augmented her DNA while she was still in the iron womb while Chizuru was preoccupied with Yumiko.

It was mentioned a few times that she exhibited a higher potential than Kazuki in certain areas, including her ability to quickly adapt the gunnery skills of others and her quickly becoming a deadeye. Even her altered state was ideal; muted emotions, always calm (something that also helped slow assimilation rates; all the hot-headed ones ended up with an accelerated decline), and relatively cold logic while in that state.

Follow Me transitions directly into Shangi-La during a climactic moment.

Keith is forcibly assimilated by Jonathan in a manner similar to this dude, and while half-insane and on a rampage, is taken out by Maya.

Dustin dies while Billy cries.

As the Island has become much more than what it once was, taking in all those refugees and defectors, they finally decide to show unity by changing their uniforms and everyone involved with Island Operations now wears the ED longcoats, including Narain and his group as well as Misao.

At the end of the series or the movie, Misao mates with Miwa and their child represents Life, and brings about the full circle of what had happened to Japan and its citizens.

At the end of the series or the movie, we learn that Chizuru is also pregnant; and that Fumihiko is the father. Cue wedding. This also serves to show the growth of the Island Mir has become strong enough to undo the blessing the original Festum granted to the Japanese.

Have you stopped to consider how perfect Canon is?

When we first met her, she was a monotonous puppet who only followed orders and didn't have any desires or place value in her individual existence. Even in the last few episodes of DA, she's very stilted and formal and inclined to follow orders (you can see that in her interactions with Youko and... in learning the Goubain dance from Mamoru). The only individual desires she articulates are to pilot with everyone and to call Youko "mom."

By Exodus, she's blossomed into a vibrant, energetic, expressive young woman, who's gotten so comfortable and familiar that she accidentally calls Youko "mom" on the job. She has casual conversations about deeply personal subjects with Maya, and stands up to Soushi and her own mom. Sure, she spills her spaghetti whenever Kazuki's around, but she's a completely different person. It's amazing. She went from having no individual will, to having a will so strong that she gained time-travel powers and accidentally got the island stuck in a rut where her subconscious wish could be fulfilled. And then the girl who was willing to blast Tatsumiya to pieces so she could disappear, disappears to stop Tatsumiya from getting blown to pieces.

Sakura, Kenji, Hiroto, and Seri had great development that gets overlooked too. But Canon is the true miracle of Fafner.

Seriously, THIS is what we see - Jonathan shoots, barely grazes Ai's Fafner, and it falls down, completely intact. Not even an explosion.

If she never shows up again in the show, then she gets crossed out, but until then, not dead.

She would be death before that. She was running low on blockers, her machine was damaged and the subs are designed for rapid escapes. That's the reason no one in the island went after the subs. She still could be alive, though.

They are shown recovered by the Nuns. That's 2 of the 42.
Then on that handy little screen it indicates that only 1 Perseus Fafner is left. That means the other 39 were destroyed.

The 1 surviving Perseus Fafner is Narians.
We know that 21 Military personal survive. Those aren't all pilots

So it's stated by that Ninety percent of the Perseus Pilots were killed. That's roughly 37-38 of the Perseus pilots. If we include Johnathan and Billy into the figure because they're assume dead and not AWOL, that means with Narian only about 2-3 pilots survived. If the island KNOWS they're AWOL that means only 2 pilots survived and one has to be Narian.
