Gunpla/Plamo General
Sorry for the Shitposting Edition
**READ THE GUIDE***

***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

Thank you anon for making a real thread

I'm honestly getting tired of shitpost-kun's bullshit

Hitting up a couple of local places tonight and tomorrow for black friday deals. The local overpriced comic shop is having a 40% off sale on models and figures while the hobbyshop with better prices which never has black friday sales is doing 20% off.

It was dead in the last bread too.

How's the O Gundam kit? I was thinking about trying to get it and Exia REII
>>
Hey guys /m here. I know you really love your gunpla and by all means post here, but try to keep your threads down to what's necessary please. There's 4 Gunpla threads up at the same time.

Thanks for your consideration,
the rest of /m/
>>
>>13555155
Normally I'd be apologetic for this, but go fucking yell at the asshole who keeps making bullshit threads with his shitposting instead of the actual generals. The only thread this one pushed off was another dead general so there was literally nothing lost.
>>
>>13555166

I honestly believe at this point that the guys who come in here saying "hey losers why do you spam 5 gunpla threads?" is shitposter in disguise.
>>
>>13555150
>How's the O Gundam kit?

Actually pretty great. Much better than the exia RII.

>>13555129
Right now I would give it to one of the Graze. The frame is even better than on the Barbatos and because its a simpler design it has less color apps everywhere that require painting.
>>
>>13555166
It's the shitposter. Notice how he only posts this in this thread and not the clearly spam threads?
>>
Quick question for you guys, how long will a bottle of 10mL tamiya enamel last if I were painting armor for an MG? I went straight from snapbuilds to lacquer and I never had to use it before and I need a base coat for candycoating.

It sounds like you want a final battle set, but consider getting the rollout ver 0 Gundam instead, for the sick WoL that the regular one doesn't come with.
Other than that though, it has pretty solid engineering, as it lacks the balljoint style legs that came with some 00 kits.
Unfortunately every Exia kit except ameijin inherits this problem, so the R2 is gonna have some wonkier engineering, including those infuriating shoulder-chest pieces AND ball jointed legs.

Cool, it's a simple design but I like it, nice to hear the kit is solid.
>>13555229
>consider getting the rollout ver 0 Gundam instead,
I actually had for that exact reason.
As for the joints, I was figuring I'd put them on stands anyway. Thanks.

Say, if I got both versions of O since it's so cheap, would the "wings" be able to be affixed to the final version easily enough? I mean I could always do a little work myself, but just curious.
I know it's not true to form, but rule of cool.
>>
>>13555261
They are the exact same mold, so yes. The rollout version came with the wings, the other one came with the condenser parts.

Dammit, you got me again HLJ. And before anyone says it, I know the quality sucks, and the gelgoog is so I can steal the bazooka an backpack for my HGUC gelgoog and repaint it.
>>
Bandai please just a quick reprint of the g gundam kits please it won't be that much
>>
>>13555460
You dont use clear coat on bare plastic, its unnecesary, you use it to protect the paint you are panel washing on
>>
>>13555460
Not with lighter fluid. But enamel paint and enamel thinner itself will erase acrylic.

I dunno how would you do a wash without enamel thinner. (Never tried lighter fluid though, just used it for erasing botched enamel paint)
>>
>>13555226
10mL will last a very long time out of an airbrush with proper technique. I can't tell you "four HGs" because there are so many variables, but a few drops of paint goes a long way.

>>13555425
um this looks hype as fuck buddy. What type of paints are you using? Super smooth.
>>
>>13555496
>>13555460
Lighter fluid acts as thinned but just for some minutes, after you panelwash the panel lines it will evaporate and leave the enamel paint on its place, really easy method and even better than using enamel thiner

I'm curious, now that Bandai makes kits using that poly whatever plastic instead of whatever they used before and abs, are all versions of previous kits now made using the new stuff? For example, mg oyw rx-78-2 has abs leg frame, is this now new plastic?
>>
>>13555823
Thanks anon
>>
>>13555850
>are all versions of previous kits now made using the new stuff?
No. Old kits use old plastic formulas. The tolerances of the old kits would be quite different with new material anyways so it's not so simple as swapping in the new soft ABS.

>>13555502
Thanks, i've been using gaia notes

star bright brass for the yellow

star bright iron for the hands, except the articulated one isnt painted.

ABS is what the inner frame of most MGs is made of.

Hell this runner in the MG Gundam 1.5 is the only ABS in the kit and it is from a kit from 2002, The RGs probably derived their casting method from it.

not really, RE/100s arnt released in pairs like that and the Efreet from Blue Destiny was already announced before the MS from that manga were released.
>>
>>13556684
Re/100 is still a new line and they might be trying a new campaign to sell units.

those are stress marks

don't cut the nubs all off with your hobby knife. sand the last 10% off with sandpaper to get less marks like that on your plastic. or you can file it down all the way instead then sand away.

it won't matter if you're doing a paint job though since it'll be covered, but a bumpy nub will be obvious even through paint
>>

it's ok. Too much footage of the actual anime, and that shit will get you in huge ass trouble with bandai/sunrise on youtube. I recommend you get rid of the footage if you can.

Also, do more research on pricing and stuff. Barnes and Noble was bound to jack up the price, but most people who are into the hobby already know about sites like hlj, etc, where they get much better prices.

You need to be super careful about that copyright shit, again, having the theme at the end might fuck you.

You had some decent line delivery, but when doing a review, focus less on jokes and more on details about the mobile suit.

When I watch a review, I look for someone to talk about the surface details, articulation, etc. The review was lacking in such detail. Good luck, anon.

Wouldn't it make more sense for the missile launcher to be on the left shoulder, with the grenade launcher held in the left hand? Then it can shoot grenades and the bazooka and missiles all at the same time.
>>
>>13559608

My tips so far, just as a viewer
1. Get to the action, most people watching a review know why they are there, and if they want to know about you in particular, you can make a separate video

2. Spend more time on the text you put on screen, capitalizing each first letter for example, and if you have text over video, add a stroke outline so it doesn't look like MS paint come to life

3. Don't say "fucking" so much you fucking sperg, it's normal time when you're on youtube

4. Watch your video over again when you are done and say to yourself, if I didn't make this would I actively seek it out, and for what reason

I guess that'd work. I just haven't really gotten around to mounting the launcher yet, and even if I did the shoulders are interchangeable. I've been working on the sniper unit which, unfortunately, I can't show because it currently has some glue drying and I want the backpack on before I show it off.

>>13559652
There's actually no EZ-SR in there. I was going to use the Intruder backpack but it was too big with the bazooka mounted on the shoulder so I decided to give the Heavy the Graze Kai's backpack so it had some kind of booster. Thruster? Vernier? What the fuck do you call those things?

Anyway, I am giving it one of the shoulder cannons in it's load out.

so much intro, animeshit.

HG Freedom was my very first gunpla, I'm kinda tempted into picking another Freedom. RG, HGRE or wait for MG 2.0.

Your opinions are okay, but make more footage of your building process, tell us about the step by step you took to build your gunpla, what tools. etc etc

less anime footage, more pictures of your own. Instead of showing shaky videos, you should just use some well taken pictures of your own.

At very last, good job with your first review video, keep doing it and improving.

Probably, that's a bad habit born out of bandai making good kits that generally fit the first time. Even then there are some parts that can be difficult to separate that you need to think about, and the first build helps that.

I can see so many ways that would go wrong

Didn't read any of the feedback from other anons but here's my 2 cents

Spending time on the source material (manga/anime) is good but you seriously overdid the ratio. Try to keep it less than ~30% of the total video, you're here to review the model, not give your opinion on the mobile suit in-universe.
The "pilot" section is honestly useless and conveys no information about the kit.
The "pricing" section is also slightly skewed due to the fact you bought from a store that marks up prices. It's almost always better to buy online than from B&N and your price point should reflect on either the msrp or the most used source of the kit (hlj/amiami/hobbysearch).
Cool down on the "fucking" it's ok to express yourself casually but in this case if you want to do semi-professional reviews then you gotta at least to pretend to be a normie.
Don't move around the kit when you have it in shot, just have it and a camera on stable surfaces while pointing to whatever part your discussing at the time.

All in all, I'd have preferred if you would spend more time in the hobby before you start reviewing. Your format needs a bit more work but at least the video was entertaining, kind of reminding me of another autistic fuck I watch who reviews anime with the same dry humor. Keep up the work faggot

Sweet. First leg done, finished up with building for the night.

Don't know what to do with the Gogg in terms of custom work. I've got all the Kampfer Amazing weaponry, and the Amazing Booster HGBC pack. Maybe I'll make a Gogg Amazing?
>>
>>13560192

>tacking bits on a gogg

a custom gogg has to be pretty strongly centered around a concept

it's not really a suit that can use a lot of weapons with those hands

Just do what they actually did in the old UC days and stick a gun on it's shoulder and make a "Gogg Cannon"
>>

I wasn't going to give it handheld weaponry, I like that it has claws. More like using equipment to give it enhanced assets like a different backpack for more mobility.

OK OK a has been pro video guy here.
I'll take it from here.

1st, the length, too long for the content you have, too short for a proper product review.
Now I see you want to inject your personality and your opinions of the show in your review, that's fine, if you got style and a angle.
Either format your video to fit your personal style or drop anime biz for a pure product review.
Gunpla nerds don't care about the fictional world, they already know or don't care.
They don't need your bullshit and whatever you'll say will piss off at least 50% of these fucks just like /m/.

Don't use anime footage or pictures off the web, not because copyrights bullshit, but 'cause it's lazy as shit. I got google too, don't need your slide show, use your own pictures.

Take the largest size photo your phone has
and pan across/up and down the screen. Shoot the box, the instructions, the runners, you making the bot during the build, final product in GOOD light.
No desk lamps.
Since I assume you are doing this all with a cellphone, use daylight, shoot closest possible to the window or outside, shaded, like a patio.
It's winter now, but if you live in sunbelt, use curtains to avoid blowing out the whites.

Get a stand/tripod for your phone, no hand holding, use verbal command no touching.
Get a macro lens band for your phone, it's like 5 bucks and will help to get all the detail on these small things.
If you have access to a real camera, snatch that shit and use it.

Use a pointing stick not your skinnyfat fingers to point out detail and keep the model still when doing so.
Keep intro under 5 seconds, your name, what this video is and what your reviewing.

cont.
>>
>>13560215
AUDIO HOLY SHIT AUDIO IS IMPORTANT.
IT'S 50% OF YOUR VIDEO REMEMBER THAT.
Record your voice over separately in post, ideally from a script in your closet with the surface covered in fabric. Or under your blanket in bed. Avoid recording in the bathroom with hard surfaces or outside in the wind. Just speak clearly, enunciate the words with steady pace.
You can get usable audio even form a phone this way.

You can lower the pitch in post to get rid of the "nerdy nasal" voice if you want, I'd also suggest speeding it up too.
Use music sparsely and let it fade away quickly, use for transitions.

Follow a format, a segment template, intro, robot background, where you got it, the build, detail, review, recommendations, endtro, stick to it.
Have a refferal link under your video so you can get some of that affiliate cash, who knows?

Look up shooting video tip on youtube or even on video threads on /p/
good luck.

Maybe make it so that it looks like the mace-spear thing has some weight to it. Like there's momentum to the swing, or that he's gonna toss it.

Burning's alright, though maybe move the left arm a bit further back to add some momentum to the look.

Blue Astray is perfect and needs no further improvement.

My dog pissed in my bed /gpg/ when I was ironically in the bathroom after I put her out. How the hell don't you have a sleeping bag? Don't stay up all night snapping a kit in your tired state, and don't put your washing on as it'll take forever to dry. Get some rest and take care of yourself. If you can afford it, look into a sleeping bag. Doesn't need to be top of the line, but they're extremely useful like during the middle of winter and you need the extra warmth.

Does anybody who uses alligator clips have tips for making them grip not so tightly/softer?
I bought a pack of the kind you would find on wires used in physics labs to connect circuits, but they have pointy teeth and bite much too forcefully, when I tested them on the end of a runner they bit quite deeply into it leaving nasty tooth marks.
>>
>>13561762

you want that, the tip is to attach them to the back on all of the pegs etc.

If you have a piece that you can't clip, you want to use something like sticky tack or masking tape to attach it to a skewer
>>
>>13559877
I feel like this is one of the things 08th MS Team was missing considering its Vietnam-inspired aesthetic. Just imagine Ground Type Gundams hosing down the forest with napalm trying to smoke some zeeks out.

Then again there are tons of real-world weapon analogues I wish we'd see more in gunpla instead of the usual vaguely-bullpup-shaped mid range beam rifle. That grenade launcher in the latest IBO weapon support pack has been a long awaited dream for me. I know about the Koto stuff, but the scale is never quite right.

This one is looking a little plain for my taste to be honest family. If it's going to be the "sniper" unit, maybe try a cloak on it or something? Giant rifles are so common now that they don't really spell "sniper" like they used to.
