The problem was they basically pussyfooted and tried to have it two ways, and pleased no one. Mechafags were upset by the pointless Idolshit that pretty much vanished after a certain point. Idolfags were upset by the different character designs, personalities, VOICES, mecha, literally everything.

They should have gone all the way, full fucking Macross ripoff/Symphogear and had the idols actually be idols powering the robots with song.

That's backwards though. There wasn't any idol stuff at first, then later in the series Haruka actually becomes an idol for a bit, but it's not even played as an important thing. All it really does is allow the opportunity for that scene where she finds recordings of her TV and radio appearances in Imber's database. Which was pretty cute.

I thought this was a pretty good "bishoujo mecha" show. I don't care about the Idolmaster franchise though, this is the only part of it that I've consumed aside from doujins.

It certainly has a more feminine silhouette than the others. Even has a reasonably recognizable facsimile of Godannar-style boobplate, if you can spot it.

Also the only one that comes packed with a spike launcher... which actually makes acute sense as both an asteroid-busting machine and a unit built specifically to take down the other Prometheus units, come to think of it.

Xenoglossia songs are nice. Character designs are more of meme-tastic overhaul (Chihaya and Yukiho who are supposedly most conscious about their not-so-nice figures suddenly gets cow-tits) than anything. Different VA helps to keep your mind that this is actually a different thing than a direct incarnation like L4U OVA.

Just think of Xenoglossia as a one-time small gig by 765 Pro (which they didn't do again until Theatre is established) and Kuroi screwed them from the shadows like dubbing over their voices by other idols (one of the girls in the sports episode is voiced by a Xeno Futami) so as hinder their growth/popularity.

IIRc, as asteroid breakers all the Modenkind models have are the punch guards/crush claws attached to their arms. I forgot what Nubilum has to fit its stock-standard hand manipulators, Epimethus just has really sharp claws and Hiems is the only one with ranged weaponry in the form of a KP launcher.
