What are some good Animes similar to Sidonia S01? I especially

Muv Luv Alternative seems to do it well too. At least from the first couple of episodes I watched.

Muv Luv is supposed to start as a cliche high school harem comedy and then later turn into a violent war against aliens. The anime is a sidestory and thus jumps straight to the aliens part.

It's also a really bad adaptation, not doing the source material any favors.

...look, nincompoop, Muv-luv (the original trilogy) is revered because it's absolutely fantastic and is executed amazingly. Going from a forgettable dating sim to a starship troopers-esque military science fiction political-thriller-ish war drama that's utterly gripping in every way, and doing it well, is much more impressive than TE, which basically has none of the magic at all and spoils large parts of the original story.

Compare it to watching Fate/Zero before reading the FSN VN, except if Fate/Zero was garbage.
