Hey just while we're on science fiction, I remember hearing about this story that takes place in the far future where everyone lives in a giant building because theres demons outside or something crazy and I can't remember the name, help?

High-rise?
I have never trusted a person whose parents couldn't name them properly

Don't know if she's right or not. Never cared about women or their childish tantrums.
>>9999576 The Night Land?

still trying to articulate precisely what it is i don't like about Harlan Ellison's work. occasionally he has a story with a satisfying conclusion (although the only one i can think of is "God Bless You, Little Life Hutch").. but most of his work is long on loud screeching and short on.. actual story. consider the subject of this thread - pissed off AI tortures people, some of them manage to commit suicide so it turns the last one into a minecraft Large Slime. i sense a lack of, well, most of the elements that make a story work. there's a lot of apocalyptic ranting and woo, but any eight-year-old with a thesaurus could do that.
Harlan Ellison is my hero

I agree with your general idea but that short story in particular is rather horrifying desu
