Where does one start with Persian literature?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there aren't really many first hand Persian accounts. Historians don't really have that many Persian sources. The majority of what we know is through the Greek lense.

Read Rumi. Good poet. Generally a lot of stuff by sufi mystics tends to be Persian.

Read the Avesta and Pahlavi texts (or at least parts of them, they're pretty esoteric), then Ferdowsi, then Nizami, then Rumi.
