>had no work to do at work for a week now
>if I had spent all that time at my desk, taken an hour for lunch, that would be 7 hours per day times 5 days times 30 pages per hour = 1050 pages
I should see my job as a professional reader. Paid by my employer to become a patrician.
>30 pages per hour

Welcome to office life, OP. It isn't all that bad when you figure things like this out.
That said, it's harder to get away with reading books at the office than it is articles, but if you can read books, more power to you.
I can rel8. Finished a short story collection today because the condoms I was supposed to pack didn't arrive on time.

This actually isn't much worse than my reading speed. Albeit, it's only around 30 or 40 if the text is small. If we're talking about normal sized text that isn't straining my eyes, then I can get at least 70 or 80 pages an hour.

Number of pages read per hour is not really indicative of anything. If you're reading Kant or Nietzsche you could easily spend 10 minutes reflecting on a single page and still not exhaust the material, likewise you could get through 150 pages in that time and not understand a single word.
