I started "One day in the life of Ivan Denisovich" and honestly I couldn't go on, the agony was just so much. But yes, it was well written.

He has that bombastic oratorial style that appeals namely to fans of Dostoevsky so if you're into that, have fun. I would say read Bunin or Bely instead.
