>claims to care about literature
>doesn't actively seek out what the next classic might be
What books from the past couple of years have you actually read?

this book is good except it kinda loses focus in the third act and it's really dumb to have the character's names appear AFTER their dialogue
>>9943040
also I highly recommend Ben Lener's 10:04, the structure is masterful

Is that the sequel to 4:48?

I guarantee you The Nix by Nathan Hill will be read in middle schools within the next twenty or so years, even if it is too fucking long
>has a Trump-like figure making political candidacy
>explores personal devastation caused by the Iraq war
>plot thread concerns radical hippie SJW mum who neglects her child
>'antagonist' is a master manipulator who uses his socialist credentials as a cover
>incorporates baby's first meta-textual literary techniques (the Choose Your Own Adventure Chapter)
I probably make it sound like shit, but it's a pretty good book for what it is, and also surprisingly reactionary

>surprisingly reactionary
Let me get that basic gestalt.

The plot is about the protagonist trying to discover why his holier than thou former activist mother abandoned him. It follows her character through childhood into her campus years, and without getting spoilery, the book spends a lot of time demonstrating how ideological thinking usually grows from petty personal reasons.

This time is incapable of inspiring anything resembling the next classics. The mind is too known, too used, too industrial. Machine minds with machine hearts.
