To get a basic understanding of the subjects, it's better to just read modern textbooks. They cover all the important discoveries of these famous texts minus the bits that have been debunked plus stuff that wasn't known 200 years ago. The only book like this that's actually worth reading is Euclid because it's fun to work through the proofs yourself with a compass and straight edge.

Yeah but if I was actually studying modern textbooks then I'd be learning. That's not what the pseuds do. Instead of learning calculus or physics they read prose about the development of calculus or physics and write long worded screeds containing words such as "hysteresis", "surplus", or "materialism".

A mathematician insulting me for not knowing algebraic geometry isn't a pseud automatically. If he says that algebraic geometry "gives you a profound understaning of the human condition and economics and politics and the soul" then he'd be a pseud. That sort of thing is what pseudo intellectuals (i.e., humanitiesfags) say about these books.

In relation to wealth of nations and origin of species: I completely agree that these books could easily be summarised in a page with nothing worthwhile lose and with myself having more time to move on to deeper topics. But the pseuds have an obsession with "the original texts. They contain such profound and complex truths, unlike the sterile modern textbooks!"

This is the type of thinking of all humanitiesfags.
