>finally ignore the pseuds and decide to give up on manufacturing consent and guns, germs and steel because I find them boring
>decide that I'll read war and peace and great expectations then ignore the pseuds forever (I've read the republic and brothers karamazov so I'll have read the four most important books)
>suddenly feel sad because I'll be navigating culture on my own rather than join the corrupt pseud circle jerk, which at least has company
This is a lonely road. I like good writing too much to enjoy most sci-fi or fantasy novels. I'm too much of a non pseud to like boring as fuck pomo novels that the dumb masses are told to enjoy. So called literary fiction is mostly extremely faggy stuff pushed by new Yorker reading "literary intellectuals". Most 19th century books are hideously ovetrated. Literary theory is bullshit. Continental philosophy is bullshit. Nonfiction books are usually unentertaining information dumps. Who shares my my taste? Here are books or authors I enjoyed.
James ellroy
Raymond chandler
Michael chabon
Bret Easton Ellis
F Scott Fitzgerald
Notes from the underground
The secret history
The stars my destination
Many entry level tier books
When I look back I barely enjoy most books. I just tolerated them for the pseud cred.
Most modern books are marketed towards faggots. Basically the "anyone except white males" crowd. Pre 1900 books are honest books but so many are just hopelessly boring.
You're just too intelligent and conscious for your own good.

>lists Michael Chabon as a favourite

I know. I think if I go back I may dislike his stuff but I don't want to let my sympathy for poor cloud my taste too much.

Since when is Great Expectations one of the four most important books?

I just guess it is because I live in the UK
How do I make the guilt of not finishing them go away?
