Books where the movie was better

Burgess invalidated the entire book with the last chapter, Kubrick was smart to end the film where he did

Apocalypse Now if that counts

godfather
>>
Burgess literally created new slang and ways to speak. Kubrick did nothing so daring in the film.

But to answer your question, The Silence of the Lambs

Battle Royale
Forrest Gump

The Godfather.
The book was complete trash.
>>
Fight Club.

The movie was more confident and knew it's dirction. The book was chaotic and without purpose.

>Burgess invalidated the entire book with the last chapter

Without the 21st chapter, Alex remains a reflection of his environment, his agency twisted into a binary of conformity versus rebellion. His becoming sated with the violent misadventures of his youth and seeking a "family life" is the byproduct of his having essentially done all he wants to do, and recognizing that the meaning in hedonism is that you are allowed to explore your limits, but when you find them, you are changed. It isn't until this point that Alex even really becomes a dynamic character, and there is a sense of imbalance without it.

>chaotic and without purpose
sounds an awful lot like the main character who also happens to be the narrator
>>
>>9917051
Yeah this. Kubrick's ending is le edgy and dark but pretty much negates any character development.
>>
>>9916583
The Mist.
The ending was unexpected in the movie.

>>9916936
>The movie is just porn
It's a pervert humor. Ironical intentional porn.
Game of Thrones is unironical unintentional porn.
>>
>>9916996
Yeah, that's because it was written in segments. He wrote chapter seven first, as a short story.
Also, the narrator is psychotic, so it's probably on purpose.

>Burgess literally created new slang and ways to speak. Kubrick did nothing so daring in the film
That's not an argument.
Kubrick is filming a book, what's he supposed to do? Replace all the dialog?
>>
>>9917051
My copy only has 20 chapters, even though it isn't the american press

Probably Cloud Atlas

You're missing the point. Burgess was more creative and courageous in what he did with the book than what Kubrick did with the film. There is nothing groundbreaking in either filmmaking technique nor technology in the film version of A Clockwork Orange.

If people didn't jerk themselves so hard over Kubrick, the film would've been forgotten pretty quickly.

Speaking of Kubrick, The Shining. But that could just be because Stephen King is trash

There Will Be Blood

>invalidated

You have no idea what the book is about do you?
>>
Chapter 21 really hit me
>>
You guys know that kubrick left the last chapter out because the american publication removed it and that was the one kubrick read?
>he doesn't even know the publication history of the books he reads
Also burgess' new words just copied russian words. There is nothing original about it, it's like if I wrote a book half in hebrew.

I meant to say that people call it a good series. But it's not series - it's porn
