So I want to get into surrealism but I'm not sure what to start with. I was thinking Lives of the Gods cause those are short stories but that is out of print. What works do you think would be a good intro?
Kobo Abe and Flann O'Brien are always good starts

I think the best place to start is Kafka. Then move onto Abe, and O'Brien. Also Breton, Schulz, Carter and maybe Vian (That copy of Froth on the Daydream is very hard to find. I think it is published in English more recently under a different name). That Nabokov novel is also pretty good but not essential, same with Cortazar but I've only read Blow Up. From there I would choose whatever covers pick your fancy. Personal recommendations would be Moravagine, The Tenant and The Lives of The Gods. Bear in mind works like the Dogra Magra has never been published in English so good luck unless you can read multiple languages.
However, if you're more interested in Surrealism as a movement I would suggest after Kafka going straight for Breton and then read his manifesto, but that will branch into art as well. Anyways have fun and hope you enjoy these novels. Personally I feel surrealism is best enjoyed when you don't binge more surrealist works in a row, they lose their uniqueness in comparison to most works of literature.
