I want to start reading more, /lit/. I want to see more than just boring words on a page and appreciate it as an art form. Where should I start?
start with the greeks, obviously.

Greeks -> Romans -> Christian theology / the Bible -> Italians (Dante / Boccacio) -> Chaucer -> Shakespeare.
After that you'll have a very solid background in /lit/ and you can confidently pursue what you're interested in with a great background in the stuff everyone great writer would know.
You can find the charts you'll need in the sticky.
Just start reading what you want, history, philosophy, literature, fantasy, whatever. If you want recommendations, there are almost always threads up for different things. Don't go by the top 100 lists until you feel ready.
