I want to read some more good sci-fi novels since what's on TV and Movies are shit these days. I just read pic related and read the wikipedia afterwards which describe it as "unfilmable" due to the concepts and depictions in the novel. Does /lit/ have any other thought provoking sci-fi novels with such trippy descriptions that they will probably never be made in a movie?

Solaris was a movie wasn't it?

Movie was an adaptation of a book.

i think banks' Culture novels are sufficiently action-oriented to make into films. "Player of Games" might run into some problems because the Empire of Azad is so obviously a parody of Western culture that the film would alienate everyone.
OP: Read "The Caryatids" by Bruce Sterling. it's set in a world ruined by climate change, but he doesn't beat you about the head with it.
