I'm editing a self publishing author's manuscript right now and it is terrible. There are so many spelling mistakes, grammar mistakes, plot holes, terrible storytelling. I don't think this one is worth the money at all. Any other editors know this feel?

How do I become an editor?
Currently a lawyer, want to be an editor.

I was a news editor for my college newspaper. One of the reasons I quit was because I spent so much time editing my staff's shit articles I couldn't focus on my other duties. One guy was ESL and I decided it was easier to fire him than teach him not to write like a retard.

You could go for a certificate in editing, check for editing jobs near you. Maybe practice editing at writing workshops and try to get your foot in the door. It pays less than law, and people love to tell you that you're wrong.

Can you legitimately not tell the difference between an editor's manuscript and published work?

I kinda admire people who choose the life of horrors that's editing. Even doing it for my own work is a fucking pain and I love every letter of it. Doing it for someone else sounds painful and brain-numbing.
How the fuck do you go through 80k words without killing yourself?

For the most part it's enjoyable. I respect the people who hire me and I respect their work. It can be relaxing at times. It only becomes awful when the piece i'm working on is uninspired yet grammatically proper.

I'm not OP, but it took me 15 seconds to find the source. And now you're getting worked up for no reason at all, directed at the wrong person.
